This past weekend I attended The City of Miami Gardens’ 9th annual Jazz in the Gardens music festival at Sun Life Stadium. There were performers from the world of jazz, hip hop and r&b. Grammy Award winners LL Cool J, Jamie Foxx and Anthony Hamilton were just a few of the awesome performances I was so lucky to have witnessed. The vibe was amazing. Strangers singing next to strangers. Everyone was in a good mood and it was contagious. I also enjoyed legendary bass guitar legend Stanley Clarke and six octave range songstress Rachelle Farrell. As if this wasn’t enough there were powerful and sexy sets by R&B artist Trey Songz and original Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland. The now classic R&B funk group Mint Condition also performed a medley of their hits. Boney James did his thang for the smooth jazz aficianados in the audience. The iconic Frankie Beverly and Maze closed out a wonderful weekend on Sunday night. There were plenty of food and libation choices to keep the crowd energized for all of the acts. Great crowd. Great music. Great Food. On a scale of 1 to 10, this weekend was a 11.

On Wednesday Feb. 19, I was among the more than 100 media personalities/outlets in attendance for the First Annual #JITG9 Foodie-Focus at the Betty Ferguson Auditorium in Miami Gardens. I had a chance to enjoy the best food that will be for sale at the music festival. There will be 50 food stations at Jazz In The Gardens 2014 . Six of the most popular festival chefs from Jazz in the Gardens served up their greatest hits for the media : conch salad, seafood, Jamaican and Caribbean cuisine, BBQ, dessert and more!

On March 15 and 16, 50 festival chefs will be at their Food Village for their 9th year. This year’s food lineup equals the stage performers: LL Cool J, Jamie Foxx, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Trey Songz, Kelly Rowland, Mint Condition, Anthony Hamilton, Stanley Clarke, Rachelle Farrell and Boney James.

“There isn’t a better place to eat in South Florida than right here. It’s nice to be able to try a little bit of everything, I can’t decide what I like best. The BBQ is amazing, Chef Winston’s seafood rice is incredible, Keith Reed’s conch salad is the best I’ve ever had, the jerk chicken at the Kingston Delight is the best in South Florida, CuzN Tim’s seafood is super fresh and seriously, the Fruitzen Delite Italian ice is the best I’ve ever had,” said Melissa Dunn, Tamarac.
