#Miami ! This Friday, Get Ready to #GetHard or Go Home! @GetHardMovie Starring @KevinHart4real @WillFerrel ~ Advanced Screening Recap by #SobeSavvy .com

image

Go Hard, Laugh Hard and go see Get Hard! Will Ferrell gets an education in incarceration from Kevin Hart in this Warner Bros. Pictures’ comedy.
This movie is about a millionaire,  James King who after being nailed for fraud and bound for San Quentin, he turns to Darnell Lewis to prep him to go behind bars. The coin themselves ” Mayo” and “Chocolate”. Get Hard is a buddy film. One going to jail and the other prepping him to go to jail.

The jokes and gags do the seemingly impossible. They offend every possible racial, ethnic and sexual orientation group. Equal homophobic and racist at the same time. It is done in a very lighthearted way. No cruelty or malice intended. Some critics have taken these jokes too seriously ,while I just enjoyed the silliness of it all. I laughed and audience goers around me laughed even harder.

Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell have a comedic chemistry on screen which made for an enjoyable movie. These supporting cast members:  Craig T. Nelson who played Martin Barrow, the founder of Barrow Funds (Ferrell’s character’s boss) and also the father of Ferrell’s character’s fiancee, Alison Briesigned who plays the fiancee of Ferrell’s character, Edwina Findley acts as Rita Hudson, wife to Hart’s character , Dan Bakkedah played Rick, Ferrell’s hated frenemy at their office and T.I. who played a character named Joaquin, Hart’s character’s streetwise cousin….. all added to the funny!

Color me impressed with all fifty shades of grey and then some!  I thought the movie adapted well from the book. Viewers not familiar with the book will enjoy it as much as the readers. While the movie could not be as “graphic” as the novel, it has the spirit, sexiness and sensuality that the book had. This a great date night movie or a fun girls night out. Beware, your bottom may be a little tender when you leave :}

Hey #Miami! #SobeSavvy invites you to #TheWizardOfOz #MovieScreening #TCM @FathomEvents #FamilyFun @RegalMovies

IMG_20150111_174749

” Ding Dong, The Wicked Witch Is Dead”. Seven of the most iconic words in cinematic history can be heard on the big screen tomorrow 1/14/2015. Thanks to TCM and Fathom Events the 75th anniversary of The Wizard Of Oz is being celebrated in select theatres nationwide one last time tomorrow.

It’s being shown here at Regal Cinema on Lincoln Road. My family and I went on Sunday to the 2pm showing and had a great time. Our little one had seen it on TV and VHS {Yup, VHS} before but like ourselves we had never saw it as it was meant to be seen. On the big screen. TV just doesn’t do it justice. It was filmed before TV even existed. It is being shown in the exact aspect/Film Ratio as it was in 1939. The colors bolder. The ruby slippers more shiny and well.. The witch more scary.

The musical score came alive in the cinema. We ate popcorn and sang along to almost every single song. Judy Garland was just 16 when the movie was made. I have a new appreciation for her genuine unmatched talent. I have always said if I ever meet a martian who landed on earth who asks me, ” what is a movie”?, I will simply play The Wizard Of Oz. After exiting the movie we were caught in a sudden rain shower while walking/running home. Once safely inside our house, my 3 yr old said “there’s no place like home”! And there is NOTHING better than the magical Wizard Of Oz.

The film captured the complexity of the man and his music. James Brown paid the cost to be the boss and despite his hardships, became the hardest working man in show business. All in attendance were entertained as well as informed on just how much The GodFather of Soul influenced the music industry. I suggest you GET ON UP and see the movie in theaters Friday 8/1/14 !

#SobeSavvy Screens #Defaultthemovie #Miamiff @MiamiFilmFest Starring #DavidOyelowo Directed by @SimonBrand

1bcd734d-be14-45cf-8d4e-1898fcfcc716-149x220
This past Saturday evening during the Miami International Film Festival I previewed the movie Default. It is a thriller that tells the story of the hijacking of an American news crew on their plane on an African runway by Somali pirates who felt maligned by that networks prior news reporting. What ensues is a stellar roller coaster of a ride by director Simon Brand.

Default stars the clasically trained british actor David Oyelowo. He has appeared in numerous films, most notably include Lincoln and The Butler just to name a few. His character Atlas is the head of a small terrorist cell. Atlas commands a rag tag crew of accomplices in taking over the jet while it still sits on the tarmac. Default also stars Greg Callahan, Katherine Moennig, and Stephen Lord.

While most movie goers try to figure out a film in the first 15 minutes, I would advise you to keep a very open mind while watching Default. No spoiler alert here but everyone is not what they appear to be in this film. It was shot with 8 different cameras so you get a shaky Blair Witch Project kind of cinematography. Due to that effect you instantly feel vested in these characters and their fates. While this is one part political thriller, it’s really a morality thriller. This feature film has a very complex underlining plot justification. It is not for the faint of heart, but at the end when you are prying your hands off of the arms of your seats you will be forever be haunted by Default and the questions it raises.

At what cost does a person pursue their true beliefs in a cause or an objective ?

That is the question in Default. Only the viewer can decide the answer.

After the film , we were treated to a brief Q&A session with some of the cast members. Lead actor David Oyelowo responded to a query about why so many Somalis take up being a pirate instead of their traditional occupation as a fisherman.. He responded, “the West has been destroying the livelihood of Somali fishermen for years. They {the west} have exploited the fact that Somalia basically has not had a functioning government for over a decade by dumping toxic waste like used computers, cell phones and other lead containing goods in their waters. This of course kills off the fish. So former fisherman take up hijacking to make a living.”

In this action-comedy, Ice Cube and Kevin Hart lead the lineup in Ride Along, the new film from Will Packer, the director and the producer of the blockbuster comedy Think Like a Man. When a fast-talking guy joins his girlfriend’s brother—a hot-tempered cop—to patrol the streets of Atlanta, he gets entangled in the officer’s latest case. Now, in order to prove that he deserves his future bride, he must survive the most insane 24 hours of his life.

I thought the chemistry between Ice Cube and Kevin Hart was good and didn’t seem forced. One of my favorite actors, Laurence Fishburne also makes an appearance in the film and delivers.This movie provided plenty of laughs, action and suspense to possibly have a sequel.
Ride Along opens nationwide January 17, 2014. For more information, go to http://www.ridealong.com !

@BET Celebrates #BeingMaryJane

image1

On Friday, December 6, 2013 I had the honor of attending the BET Network celebration for the season premiere of “Being Mary Jane”, the popular series starring actresses Gabrielle Union and Lisa Vidal. It was held at the uber trendy Mokai lounge in South Beach during Miami’s Art Basel weekend. The event was very unique as it turned into an overall appreciation for the supporters of the show!

image2

Ever since the movie premiered on BET on July 2,2013 to over 4 million viewers, there was hope amongst fans that this movie could be turned into a weekly series. Fans got their wish. BET’s first original scripted drama will debut on Jan 7,2014 at 10 pm.
The elegant, talented and down to earth actress and star of the show, Gabrielle Union was in attendance and mingled freely with other attendees. She graciously took her time to meet and take pictures with those who asked.

image3

She said : “We are really excited for you guys to enjoy our baby as much as we do. It’s important to myself and Lisa Vidal as a Latina and a black woman to show our authentic self. Us helping one another, us supporting each other, us loving each other, us having conflict and us resolving that conflict compassionately and respectfully.”

image4

CEO of BET Networks, Debra Lee was also at the fete. She spoke with invited guests and stated : “Gabrielle Union is beautifully flawed, and we are all Mary Jane. We all have aspects of her life and we’ve all been there and we’ve all done that and it really relates to our lives. I want to tell you how excited the BET network is about this show, how committed we are to it. We are so proud to have it on BET networks.”

image5

Celebrities and patrons also had the opportunity to purchase art from artist Alonzo Adams. All proceeds from the art sales were to benefit Tracy Mourning’s Honeyshine Foundation.
Small bites were presented by Dwayne Wade’s personal chef since 2005, Richard Ingraham. This was truly a night to remember.
