GREY GOOSE Vodka Presents The “Modern Kings of Culture” portraits by Kehinde Wiley featuring Spike Lee, Swizz Beatz and Carmelo Anthony

The Redbury South Beach
1776 Collins Avenue,
Miami Beach, Florida 33139

GREY GOOSE Vodka will be celebrating the finale of a unique partnership forged to commemorate the launch of GREY GOOSE Le Melon earlier this summer between GREY GOOSE Vodka and renowned artist Kehinde Wiley. Wiley’s “Modern Kings of Culture” portraits featuring Spike Lee, Swizz Beatz and Carmelo Anthony will be publicly displayed for the first time at The Redbury Hotel before being auctioned off for charity in collaboration with Sotheby’s during Art Basel Miami Beach.

All proceeds will be donated to the “kings” respective charities–The Carmelo Anthony Foundation, the Swizz Beatz Bronx Charter School for the Arts and the NYU Graduate Film Production Fund, which will be the recipient of proceeds from the Spike Lee portrait.

I took the opportunity to stop by to see the artwork before the auction ended to capture a photograph of the art pieces. Good luck to the highest bidder!

#SobeSavvy views The Girls of #Baltimore #Art #Exhibit @theBetsyHotel Curated by Dr. Leslie King-Hammond

image1
I was born in Baltimore, Md and moved to Miami, Fl in 1996. When it comes to football I’m a Baltimore Ravens fan and as for basketball, I’m a big fan of the Miami Heat! I have love for both my hometown and my adopted hometown for the past 18 years. So when I was invited during Art Basel 2013 to check out The Girls of Baltimore exhibit, I was excited to check out the works especially since I am also a girl from Baltimore. I missed the opening but had a chance to visit a few days ago. I contacted The Betsy and was advised the exhibition is on view thru March 2014.

The Betsy-South Beach is proudly presenting The Girls of Baltimore, in the Underground Gallery. On view are words and works by Joyce Scott, Ellen Burchenal, Linda DePalma, Oletha DeVane, and Patti Tronolone. Their project embraces folk art, ethnic traditions, pop culture, and social justice.
The exhibition is curated by Dr. Leslie King Hammond (a Baltimore Girl), wide-lauded curator, Chairperson at Baltimore’s Reginald Lewis Museum, Dean Emeritus of Graduate Studies and founder of MICA’S Center for Race and Culture. “The Girls of Baltimore” hitched their wagons to each other many years ago, receiving an NEA grant in 2001 to create a collaborative show, and working since then to empower women’s voice in art. In the words of Dr. King- Hammond, “We say we’re from Baltimore but we’re really women of the world, and are privileged to have shared life’s journey as independent artists and creative collaborators.” Scholar and curator, Dr. Leslie King Hammond has been The Betsy’s Visual Arts Ambassador since 2009, leveraging Betsy’s vision to “do something new that matters in the world of art.”

For more information on this and other exhibitions programs at The Betsy, contact artsandculture@thebetsyhotel.com.

Here are some pictures of some of the art from this exhibit on display and available for purchase at The Betsy. Enjoy!
