SobeSavvy.com joined foodies and beer lovers at the FOURTH ANNUAL BULL CITY FOOD & BEER EXPERIENCE to benefit ELLERBE CREEK WATERSHED ASSOCIATION at DPAC on Sunday April 10, 2016.

DPAC partnered again with Tyler’s Restaurant & Taproom and Sam’s Quik Shop to host the 4th Annual Bull City Food and Beer Experience benefiting Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association! Over the last three years this fundraiser has raised over $25,000 for Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association. People came to have a great time with family and friends while helping this important charity!

“As a board member of Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association this event is very special to me,” said Daniel Kulenic from Tyler’s Restaurant & Taproom. “The fact that three dedicated local businesses can come together to support a passionate organization like ECWA really displays the strength and commitment that we have for the Durham community.”

At the Bull City Food & Beer Experience, attendees mingled on DPAC’s stage and throughout the venue to sample some of the best food and drink pairings Durham has to offer. This one of a kind experience took place from 4pm-8pm and combined over 35 Restaurants/ 35 Breweries to create perfect culinary pairings. To complement the cuisine the live music- Onstage Experience returns with Big Fat Gap band. Check out my video here:

“The Bull City Food and Beer Experience is an incredible event that connects brewers and restaurants to a mission that is close to their hearts–protecting and restoring our area’s water,” said Ellerbe Creek’s, Chris Dreps. “The Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association is thrilled to be involved in this amazing event because it brings so much needed attention to Ellerbe Creek, the region’s most impaired stream and a source of drinking water for 1/2 million people downstream. Over the last 3 years, the event has raised funds that have allowed us to grow our operations and become a stronger organization. Following back to back sold out tours, Dancing with the Stars: Live! has taken its all new production on the road. Fans of Dancing with the Stars, ABC’s leading entertainment show, produced by BBC Worldwide Productions, have the opportunity to see their favorite stars dance live in Durham, NC tonight. The Dance All Night Tour brings it a one-of-a-kind touring production to DPAC and I am so excited !

This winter, Dancing with the Stars: Live! – launched its Dance All Night Tour which features a bigger cast than ever before including pro dancers Lindsay Arnold, Sharna Burgess, Artem Chigvintsev, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, Keo Motsepe, Peta Murgatroyd, Emma Slater, Alan Bersten, Brittany Cherry and Jenna Johnson *. In this all new production, the dancers are freed from the ballroom to bring you a 90-minute action-packed live show. Audiences will watch exciting and romantic performances, from choreography never before seen on Dancing with the Stars, to some of the most memorable numbers from show.

Coolness is an admired aesthetic of attitude, behavior, comportment, appearance and style, influenced by and a product of the Zeitgeist. Because of the varied and changing connotations of cool, as well its subjective nature, the word has no single meaning. It has associations of composure and self-control (cf. the OED definition) and often is used as an expression of admiration or approval. Although commonly regarded as slang, it is widely used among disparate social groups, and has endured in usage for generations

Now that we are up to date on that definition, I am here to attest that I witnessed the Art Of Cool this past weekend in Durham, Nc at the Art Of Cool Music Festival.

Cool kids and cool cats. Icons and the up and coming were all represented at the festival for their second year.

On their website, http://theartofcoolproject.com/ they state, ” We are a jazz presenting 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization located in Durham, NC. We are dedicated to presenting and promoting live jazz (and related music) in unique venues throughout the Triangle. Our two major programs are Art of Cool Festival and StArt of Cool, a jazz education program. We are the rhythm of the Bull City that connects music and art to people”

Roy Ayers, Anthony Hamilton and Robert Glasper were just a few of the performers who did sets throughout the weekend. Concerts took place at various downtown Durham venues and parks. I had the good fortune of catching MoonChild and Japanese trumpeter Takuya Kuroda at Pinhook Bar on Friday. I also caught a bit of Jessie Boykins III and Robert Glasper at the Durham Armory.

What makes this music festival so unique is that ticket holders can walk to and fro different venues within a 2 or 3 blk radius on any given night. Downtown Durham is in the midst of a mind blowing rejuvenation. Trendy restaurants and bars all around. Even a top notch boutique hotel has opened .This just means that next year guests can expect a bigger and better Art Of Cool Fest.
