The Miami Beach Botanical Gardens were lit up with life on October 18, 2018 for Alexis Carballosa’s Fembra Spring/Summer 2019 line. Featuring tasty sweets by @sweetclementinecm, some amazing Rosé by Foss Marai ROÖS BRUT and a couple of not so bad looking guys serving some fiery shots from @shotsito.

Fembra “inspired by the revelation of the brave woman who demands a space and voice within society”. Alexis Carballosa captures feminine energy through couture fashion in his new line Fembra. It’s rare these days that the finale of a fashion show produces more than a round of applause. That’s not to say that designers aren’t wowing their audiences anymore, it’s just that everyone is so busy filming and taking photos with their phones that they physically can’t clap as well, in short it takes a lot for guests to detach themselves from their devices. However, at Carballosa’s preview of Fembra, fashion insiders, bloggers pretty much every invited guest stopped what they were doing and gave designer Carballosa not just a well-deserved round of applause, but a cheering standing ovation.

The collection was a lively pairing of colors and art inspired by the the revelation of the brave woman. The designs were elegant yet raw that spoke of primitive beauty done in an exceedingly polished way. Here are some photos from the event:

Happy Wednesday! Last week this time I was in NYC for a business/pleasure trip celebrating Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship, Carnival Horizon. [ICYMI, read about the naming ceremony event and get a first look>>here.] When I first received the invite I thought to myself… What am I going to wear? So for today’s “What I Wore Wednesday” post, I am sharing and showcasing the answer to my question. I wore a beautiful dress from eShakti.

I’ll admit when it comes to online shopping, especially for dresses, I enjoy going to the store and trying things on first. What I enjoyed about eShakti is that I can design the neckline, sleeve or length of the dress plus flaunt it with or without pockets! For the record, I am Team #pocketdress.

Not only am I a fan of pocketdresses, but I am a fan of themes, so with it being a cruise related event that I was attending and Fleet Week in NYC, I chose to be nautical but nice with eShakti‘s Anchor Embellished Stripe Cotton Knit Blouson Dress. I decided to play up the pop of red color in the anchor with accessories. I already had a pair of Guess red heels that went perfectly. But know that this Mom always has a back up pair of shoes if the occassion calls for it. For the press conference and tour of Carnival Horizon, I switched to a black sandal. This dress is not only comfortable but versatile. You can dress it up or make this into a casual look.

Nautical stripes are synonymous with Spring/Summer style but what I enjoyed about this dress is that it was not the typical blue and white theme but a black/white/red color scheme. This blouson dress tailored with demure dolman sleeves in stripe cotton knit with an embellished anchor and playful cord combined comfort + cute in a chic way!

#MyVioletValentine Shopping Experience at CrabTree Valley Mall

If you have been following my Instagram @SobeSavvy, then you may have seen my instastories and posts about a new series I am starting just in time for Valentine’s Day called #MyVioletValentine. 💜

In honor of the Pantone Color of the Year: Ultra Violet, I want to inspire you to switch up from the usual color red and make violet purple purchases this Valentine’s Day for yourself or loved ones. With over 200+ stores and restaurants, Crabtree Valley Mall is the perfect place in Raleigh to kick off this series! There are so many great places to ‘SHOP in the name of Love’ just like the sign outside of Bevello says…so let’s get started!

A few days ago I attended a media preview for a brand new exhibit at North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh,NC and decided to dedicate a “Five for Friday” post sharing with you my 5 Reasons You Should Visit NCMA “Inspiring Beauty: 50 Years of Ebony Fashion Fair” exhibition. The exhibit, which starts October 28, 2017 thru January 21, 2018, is the first Fashion exhibit at NCMA and is making its last stop here in Raleigh. You do not want to miss the opportunity to see an extraordinary level of creativity and innovation that this amazing exhibit shows and participate in the upcoming events. Here’s why:

The HISTORYThe exhibition explores the 50-year history of the Ebony Fashion Fair (1958-2009), an unparelled charity fashion show event that redefined the concepts of beauty, style and empowerment for African Americans. Learn about the dynamic Eunice W. Johnson, who was determined to show fashion is for everyone and revolutionized how Black women are seen in the world of fashion.

The JOURNEYInspiring Beauty: 50 Years of Ebony Fashion Fair takes you on a journey thru five decades and explores “..the impact on African American identity, style, and success,” explains Jennifer Dasal, NCMA associate curator of contemporary art and co-curator of the exhibition. The traveling Ebony Fashion Fair grew out of the pages of Ebony magazine, which the exhibition includes archival photographs and memorabilia from both the magazine and fashion show.
  4. The MISSION

    Just like the original fashion show that inspired the exhibition, this exhibition has been traveling around the country for the last 5 years. NCMA is the last and final venue, so this is your last chance to see it! Linda Dougherty, the NCMA’s chief curator and curator of contemporary art and exhibition co-curator says, “we hope that by hosting the exhibition, we continue the mission of positive change and community empowerment and encourage our visitors to rethink their own concepts of beauty.”

I jumped into a ready-to-wear Cocktail Dress designed by Fabrice and was ready to celebrate! Ebony Fashion Fair was a true agent of change and its legacy continues to inspire beauty. That in itself deserves to be appreciated and celebrated by everyone.

#FashionFriday |My #Beyonce Inspired Lemonade/Hold Up Primrose Yellow Dress for #YellowBatDay

When I saw that today was National “yellow bat ” Day, I immediately thought I can finally get my Beyonce’s “Hold Up” video on and do a fun shoot using my daughter’s plastic yellow bat. Well friends, after further research, see here >>>https://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/national-yellow-bat-day-april-21/ , today is not about that kind of yellow bat. However, I did not let that stop me from playing dress up and showing you this cute dress.(which happens to coordinate with the bat..get it!?) 

I love Beyonce. I think she has amazing talent, I respect her artistry and admire her ability to balance family and work. I have had the chance review her concerts ( ICYMI opening night of Formation World Tour in Miami review) and share with you here on the blog how iconic she is as an entertainer. When I saw this dress at Burlington Coat Factory at the low price of $16.99, I immediately thought Hold Up.. Beyonce ..Lemonade..let me buy this and pay homage to Queen B! I know, I know..it’s not Halloween and I’m no biter ( that’s 80’s slang for copying someone’s style) but this dress was a great price! Plus, I’ve always loved the color yellow, which happens to be one of the top colors of Spring Fashion 2017.

Next step in my Beyonce ‘Hold Up’ Lemonade transformation was the makeup. I found this easy to follow tutorial on You Tube and voila… I was transformed.

April 20th is Look Alike Day , so I decided to have some fun with my little one by dressing alike in one of our favorite brands for Mommy & Me fashions, LulaRoe. Last time, I shared in a Fashion Friday post about how simply comfortable and stylish LulaRoe leggings are and today I feel the same way! This time we are trying a pair in a fun print perfect for Spring!

Ever since my life has changed from being a Sahm to working full time and returning to school, I miss the frequency of our Mommy and me moments. Now that she is in kindergarten, I know the time is ticking of when the whole dressing alike will not be cool anymore. At this moment, she still finds it fun to dress like Mom. Leggings are a staple in my wardrobe. Whether I am in a pair during my #GetLovelyFit yoga practice or out and about with my daughter Ava, I enjoy wearing them. That’s why when Kim Breton, a LulaRoe Fashion Consultant , asked me if I would be interested in trying a pair of LulaRoe leggings, I said YES! I heard about the fashion brand and the comfort of their clothing and could not wait to see for myself.

Not only was I going to be able to get leggings for myself but also for my now 5 yr old daughter as LulaRoe offers “Mommy and Me” fashions! The leggings came in the mail in a pretty pink package and was addressed to my daughter. She really got a kick out of that! There was also a handwritten note inside wishing her a happy birthday.
