Kicking off #SOBEWFF with @ronzonipasta Italian Al Fresco Feast @LouieBossi @debimazar @TheTuscanGun @cheflouiebossi @miamimagazine -Photos by #SobeSavvy

image

On Feb. 19, Foodies kicked off SOBEWFF in unprecedented fashion with Ronzoni’s 100th Birthday Bash where guests were invited to dine alfresco like an Italian!

This carb heavy feast featuring Italian dishes was described as follows per
SobeFest.com ” When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie . . . and pasta, meatballs, arancini, charcuterie, and so much more! Hosted by Debi Mazar and Gabriele Corcos, the king and queen of all things Italian from Cooking Channel, this al fresco feast on the sand will showcase more than 30 chefs serving up mouth-watering fare behind the Delano Hotel.  Fall in love all over again with your favorite Italian-American dishes – whether its white sauce, red sauce, perfectly aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, broccoli rabe, or any number of specially crafted pastas.  You’ll savor your way through an abundance of both classic and modern twists while sipping on wines from Folonari Amore Italia.  Leave it to SOBEWFF to show you true amore under the stars! ”

I was able to attend courtesy of tickets provided by the Miami Beach 100 giveaway! It was uncommonly cold outside, but nothing a lot of vino and great food could not fix. Enjoy these photographs from this saucy event !

#DespanaPoolSidePaella hosted by @ChefJoseAndres @SLSSouthBeach @MasterCard #SOBEWFF #PricelessMiami ~ Recap by #SobeSavvy .com!

image

On Thursday, February 19 at the SLS, 1701 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, I attended an exclusive South Beach Wine and Food Festival MasterCard Event (for cardholders only) called Despana presents Paella by the Pool hosted by Jose Andres

This new event focused around Paella seemed like a natural fit for South Florida and naturally sold out! It was recommended by Ocean Drive as a can’t miss event and I was fortunate to have Won two tix by participating in a MasterCard Twitter Giveaway called #PricelessSurprises.

Known as the eccentric king of Spanish Cuisine, James Beard Award-winning chef and owner of The Bazaar José Andrés brought the quintessential Spanish dish to South Beach at the swank SLS.  He , along with other chefs succeeded in transporting our taste buds to the streets of Sevilla and the coastline of Málaga, all while enjoying the classic rice dish that is paella. the sandy shores of South Beach, no one can deny themselves the classic rice dish that is paella.

It was a pleasure to join them poolside at the boutique luxury SLS Hotel as they created that certain, ineffable combination of textures and flavors that add up to something both creamy and crunchy and all around delicious.

Needless to say I enjoyed Paella by the Pool and hope you enjoy these pictures from this tasty event!

#SobeSavvy Presents #BeachyBrunches ! Vol 9: @VintroKitchen @VintroHotels #SundayBrunch #Bottomless #Brunch #MiamiBeach #SouthBeach #Miami

image

What do you get when you combine the words “vintage” and “retro” ? VINTRO ! That’s the name of a new restaurant and bar that is making waves here in South Beach. http://vintrohotels.com/kitchen/

Collins Park neighborhood is the art and cultural hub on the beach and Vintro Kitchen fits in perfectly. Art is everywhere in the hotel and restaurant. Paintings, photographs and unique pieces adorn the public and private spaces. Art is such an emphasis here that it’s website states… “Love that picture in your room? You can purchase it from Vintro’s Pop-Up gallery. Our exclusive limited editions are curated by Zoel. Serving as a hub for emerging and established local and international artists, the gallery displays over 50 amazing works to inspire our senses”. Since the restaurant is the namesake of a 50 room uber stylish and funky boutique hotel, I had hoped it would live up to my expectations. Having spent considerable time in Europe, Vintro immediately transported me back to similar spots on the Cote D’Azure. Lots of wood and leather backed chairs and booths. Vintro Kitchen also has a fabulous indoor and outdoor space. This is achieved by basically having an opened back wall that expands on a beautiful terrace/patio on the canal.

On this breezy and easy Sunday they had a acoustic guitarist complementing the mood. Out on the terrace they have master grill chefs making all sorts of goodness. Lamb chops, chicken and also a cauldron of paella at your disposal. Unique indeed. An air of relaxation permeated the restaurant. It feels more like brunch at a friends country home in Nice,France. We had bottomless mimosas, champagne and sangria. Our glasses were never empty. Vintro had an amazing buffet of all your favorites. Creamy scrambled country fresh eggs, French toast and sausage for brunch purists. They were shucking oyters. Kumomota oysters that is. Fresh pastries and fresh cut fruit adorned the center of the restaurant. Later in the afternoon they had a beautiful woman dropping off langostines at all of the tables. What a yummy touch at a yummy brunch. Art work was present everywhere. What else could one want on a Sunday afternoon.

Service was awesome and the crowd was a perfect balance of locals and hotel guests. This is a gem not to be missed. I ran into Gerry Kelly. Mr Kelly is a iconic marketing legend in Miami. Vintro Kitchen is one of his clients. His affable spirit was infectious. The friendly head chef Keith Suarino made his rounds to interact with the guests. He advised that since they are a new brunch spot that he is still playing with the brunch menu. Rustic Mediterranean is how he described the cuisine. I describe it as deliciously delightful. Foodies should put this on their bucket list when seeking a brunch with style and comfort. Vintro Kitchen is a force to be reckoned with. May the force be with you….At Vintro Kitchen.

Dinner & Show @TheMaiKai #maikairestaurant #maikai #fortlauderdale Recap by #SobeSavvy!

mai kai

Mai Kai is a Florida institution. http://maikai.com/ Located in Ft Lauderdale, Mai Kai has been welcoming locals and tourist alike since 1956. Their South Pacific cuisine and their nightly Polynesian dinner show takes their guests on a journey through many pacific islands. Their tiki hut inspired decor and lanscaping is sight to behold. Outside you will find waterfalls and a trail lined with totem poles and tiki idols. Their expansive lanai just adds to the authenticity.

I was there with the hubby and our 3 yr old so I was delighted to see they had a kid’s menu. Our princess opted for the mac and cheese {of course}. It came with a beverage and dessert. Her Pineapple punch was so good, I decided on one for myself ! I comes in a real pineapple with a straw. She LOVED it ! We had a delicious classic polynesian dish called the PuPu Platter. It’s a sampler platter of Shanghai Chicken, Egg Roll, Crab Rangoon and Tahitian Cheese Tangs. I had the baby back ribs which were mouth watering. Hubby ordered the wood-grilled salmon which was served with red pepper chervil butter. Yum.

As we finished up dinner, the 7pm show started. Lots of drums and dancers dressed in authentic garb. The hostess took us on a journey to different areas in the Pacific and introduced each new set of dancers. WE LOVED IT ! Good customer service and the live entertainment is what has kept this place going for almost 60 years. It’s was a great night out for the entire family. My 3 yr old simply loved this place and the show also featured children. Next time you want to take the family to the South Pacific, save yourself a few thousand dollars and just make your way to Ft Lauderdale. You can tell me “Mahalo” after you visit !

#SobeSavvy Dines @Sienamiami @DineAmicGroup @Fabioviviani @SienaMeatball #FromScratch #SienaMiami

cover1

Siena is a small city of 50K people in the Tuscany region of Italy. It’s here that 3 friends {and business partners} stumbled upon a small bar/bistro. It had an open kitchen and oven where they served made from scratch Italian cuisine and seafood. This is how Siena Tavern http://www.sienatavern.com/miami/ was born.

I usually avoid “celebrity chef” restaurants because I have found them heavy on the “celebrity” part and usually lacking in the “chef” department. Siena Tavern avoids this trap. I found them to be an excellent restaurant and the executive chef/owner Fabio Viviani just happens to be a very well known “celebrity”. He was a Top Chef Season 5 Fan Favorite. He has brought his inventive style on classic dishes to Miami. Speaking with him about his new location here in Miami was informative. He and his partners were looking for a perfect space in Miami and decided on this former China Grill location. Siena Tavern is already a mainstay at it’s original location in Chicago. They should achieve that status here in Miami shortly. They designed the former cavernous China Grill location to be somewhat intimate, upscale yet still relatable. They have event rooms with partitions and also part of the main dining room can be curtained off for special events. Their Crudo bar area is amazing. You can sit near the wood burning pizza oven and enjoy a drink or a entire meal. They also have a full service wrap around bar area with one way glass that are also flat screen TV’s. The main dining room is a class act in design. One particular mural is breathtaking. Another wall has a unique feature. Drawers. Cabinet drawers. Lucas Stoioff, one of their owners explained that the inspiration for their “drawer wall” was from his childhood when he was tasked with throwing away such a cabinet and things didn’t go according to plan. What a great conversation piece that wall is. Here in South Beach style trumps substance about 99% of the time. Not here. The only thing better than the design and the décor was the food.

They have an extensive cocktail and wine list. We choose two cocktails. You order them by the number on the list. We had the #3 and the #10. Both were exquisite. We started with the Wagyu Beef Meatball. This is the meatball to end all meatballs. Moist and flavorful. It is stuffed with Bellweather Ricotta cheese. It’s a mini meal in itself. We were going to ask for a straw for the sauce but decided against it. Next up was a Crudo Bar sampler of 4 items. Oysters, Fluke, Hamachi and diver scallop. It was a fresh seafood bonanza. They have some rotating choices listed on the wall by the Crudo Bar. We also had two of their large succulent stone crabs. Our 3 year old had a small portion of their spaghetti in pomodoro sauce. She loved it ! We split a main entrée of their Short Rib Ravioli. The ravioli is all homemade and cut in-house. The short Rib and sauce combo was a incredible flavor impolsion. Loved it. What I also loved was a ounce of their white truffles hand shaved tableside. I inquired to the chef why truffles usually carry a hefty price tag. He explained it was due to a few factors. The scarcity and western European location. How they are harvested {with dogs and pigs that sometimes can cost 10K or more for a trained animal} also is a big reason for this culinary luxury item. The truffles just added a amazing profile to the ravioli that cannot be explained and can only be experienced. Splurge and try some truffles on your visit.

We ended our meal with a dessert called ‘bambolini’ A plate of sugar coated hot doughnut pieces. Something found at a state fair. Like a hybrid of fried dough. These came with various sauces of raspberry and chocolate that can be dipped or injected into the doughy goodness. They were simple and decadent. A great finish to a great experience. Seeking a great experience ? Look no more. Siena Tavern is here.

#Miami #SouthFlorida #Foodies Enjoy Saturday’s @SobeSeafoodFest #sobeseafoodfest – Recap by #SobeSavvy

image

We cracked open our Fall at the 2nd Annual Hess Select South Beach Seafood Festival  on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 1:00PM to 9:00 PM. The event featured a delightful mix of the very best of what South Florida has to offer event goers in the areas of entertainment, wine & spirits, and culinary scene all to support the Community Initiatives Foundation and their new EAT SMART Campaign.

The CI Management team worked diligently to create an experience not to be forgotten and most definitely did not disappoint, as they provided South Florida locals and visiting “foodies” an opportunity to enjoy signature seafood from multiple premier local restaurants.

After such a positive response to the Inaugural Hess Select South Beach Seafood Festival last year, the expectations have been set at a high standard. Knowing this, CI Management made the announcement that this year’s mouth-watering participating restaurants featuring mini café’s on the sand at Saturday’s Festival include, but are not limited to:

CIBOCJ’s Crab Shack Joe’s Stone Crabs Naked Taco Park Central Poseidon Greek Restaurant & Outdoor Lounge Red SteakhouseTarpon Bend Smith & Wollensky

Over 10,000 seafood-lovers supported the newest culinary event of the year, now considered one of Miami’s annual “do not miss” festivals. Guests agreed after attending last year that the perfect equation was created, one comprised of the beautiful ocean, amazing food and lots of great activities to partake in. The festivities this year had some great new satellite event additions throughout the festival week to please even the most discerning of tastes. Be sure to check our recap HERE of the Friday event, “Chef Showdown” at the Seafood & Sneakers Ball hosted in the Goya Culinary Pavilion.

The Hess Select South Beach Seafood Festival brought together local and visiting foodies, celebrities, VIPs and the kids too as Goya hostee the “little chefs” in the Goya Kids Zone for a great day of family fun!
