#OutandAboutAva makes her 1st #YouthFairMemories @MiamiDadeFair #MiamiYouthFair #FamilyFun~Recap by #SobeSavvy.com

So the day my 3.5yr old daughter had been waiting for had finally arrived. This was THE day we were going to the FAIR ! Not just any fair but one of the biggest and best fairs in the nation. The Miami Dade County Youth Fair http://www.thefair.me/thefair. Held on the FIU campus every year for 3 full weeks, this is the fair not to be missed.

Our little girl pulled us on multiple rides, games and even a circus performance under the big tent. They have things for kids and adults alike. We spent the majority of our time in the KiddieLand area. Everything is kid sized. Swings, mini roller coasters and teacup rides were just a few of the thrilling rides my girl enjoyed. After a cherry sno cone break we went to the circus tent for a great show. She went fishing and played a water gun balloon carnival game. Won a pig and a lady bug ! We all split a ginormous turkey leg for lunch.

We wandered through their exhibition halls where they had a belly dancing show and all sorts of things offered for purchase. Ava really really loved the animal halls. Rabbits and chickens were everywhere. The petting zoo was just the icing on the cake. One could forget we were in the biggest urban area in Florida while walking amongst camels and goats. Just spending the day watching my little girl have the time of her life was a gift I will not soon forget.. THE FAIR ! GET THERE !

Here are some photos capturing our Sunday Funday!

#SobeSavvy Presents #BeachyBrunches ! Vol 10: @SienaTavern @SienaMiami #SundayBrunch #Bottomless #Brunch #MiamiBeach #SouthBeach #Miami

brunch

Want to have a relaxed stylish brunch on an expansive sunny patio ? Want to have a relaxed stylish brunch on an expansive patio while indulging in mouth watering food choices and bottomless drinks? I am sure your answer is a resounding YES, so next weekend head out to Siena Tavern Restaurant. Located in the former China Grill space on Washington Ave and 5th street, Siena Tavern is a force to be reckoned with. The baby of season 5 Top Chef Fan Favorite Fabio Viviani, Siena Tavern has not only become a popular dinner and happy hour choice, it now offers a weekend brunch.
Guests can sit on the beautiful patio or inside their stylish dining room. Bottomless Mimosas or Bloody Mary’s are available for a flat fee. Siena Tavern decided to take some classic dishes and put unique high end culinary touches to them. Take their eggs benedict. Most of these resemble a fast food egg sandwich with English muffins. Siena Tavern decided to use mortadella. What is mortadella you ask ? It is made from very finely minced high quality pork and cubes of fat “sprinkled” inside. They use a brioche bun as the base with a pesto hollandaise sauce. We also had a caramelized waffle. Accompanied with oak barrel aged syrup and Nutella butter. No, you do not need a eye doctor appointment. NUTELLA.BUTTER. Let that sink in. It tastes as good and decadent as it sounds. Indulge in their truffle scrambles eggs. Roasted wild mushrooms and truffle oil. Oh..it also comes with goat cheese toast. Goat. Cheese. Toast. I think by now you get the picture. Many different dishes and all delish. If you have only been there for dinner, it is time to include their brunch in your brunch circuit tour. We also had the pleasure of snapping a quick pic with Fabio in the flesh. He was gracious as usual. Go to brunch at Siena Tavern. You can thank me later.

The Heigh Five..Five Questions for Celebrity Chef @FabioViviani #SienaTavern #SienaMiami by SobeSavvy.com

IMG_3028

Season Five Top Chef fan favorite Fabio Viviani recently opened a South Beach outpost of his established Siena Tavern of Chicago in the former China Grill space on Washington Ave and 5th Street. I sat down with Fabio with Five Questions:

1. What is your opinion when people refer to you as a “Celebrity Chef”?

That is fine. Exposure leads people to call you a celebrity chef. First and foremost though is that I work 130Hrs a week. Last night one of the plumbing sinks went out and I was underneath there soaked in nasty water trying to help fix it. THAT does not sound like a celebrity chef. If it helps bring people in my restaurants then great, but I am just a hardworking guy.

2. What Inspired you to start the website http://www.kidshealthcafe.com?

It’s still in a Beta setting right now. Childhood obesity is from kids eating processed artificial food. They have never been taught how to eat and cook right. Margarine is a good example. It is very close to being plastic. Empty calories. Soda and junk food. The body is not meant to try to process a bunch of hydrogenated oils and other man made chemicals. Growing up in my house we were not allowed to eat bread or pasta that we did not make ourselves. People need to spend the time each day to cook for themselves. People who say they do not have the time to do that need to realize that you will end up short changing your lifespan. Take the time now and you will have much more at the end.

3. Tell me about Fabio Viviani Wines. Have you always wanted to be in the wine business?

I do not make wine but I have been in the business of drinking wine all my life. In Italy, kids are given small amounts of wine with dinner. It’s the culture, so when they turn 21 they have no need to go binge drink in Vegas. I am a wine merchant not maker. I discover great wines. I blend them and bottle them under my name. It is sold at a fair price point. A good wine doesnot have to be very expensive. My wines have beat many high prices wines in tastings. It is accessible for everyone. I want people to enjoy a good wine at a good price.

4. Any new ventures in the near future?

My partners and I are about to open a steakhouse in Chicago. Although there are a lot of good steakhouses in Chicago we are confident we can hold our own and excel. We are also going to open a Siena Bar. Not a formal restaurant but a fun stylish place for people to go to start their evening. A nice bar lounge where you can still get some good food.

5. What passions do you have besides food and cooking?

I really am passionate about gardening and long distance target shooting. I love peace of gardening. I love long distance shooting with a sports rifle. I think it is cool to lay on the ground and shoot at a can of coke at 500 yards. You must stay focused, so I love it. I like fishing and boxing. Unfortunately I travel 300 days a year so I don’t get to indulge those passions much. Oh, I am very passionate about my wife. Make sure you print that!

Had A Blast at #BurgerBash! Thanks @BurgerBeast #SOBEWFF #SobeWff2015 @AmstelLight

image

A Burger (also called a beef burger, hamburger sandwich, burger or hamburg) is a sandwich consisting of one or more cooked patties of ground meat, usually beef, placed inside a sliced bun.

image

Bash- a gathering of people who have been invited by a host for the purposes of socializing, conversation, recreation, or as part of a festivalor other commemoration of a special occasion. A party will typically feature food and beverages, and often music and dancing or other forms of entertainment.

image

Put these two together and you have the 9th annual Amstel Light Burger Bash hosted by Rachel Ray. It was held in a signature white tent behind The Ritz-Carlton in Miami Beach this past Friday evening.

Anyone who is familiar with the Sobewff knows that THIS is THE most coveted ticket of maybe the entire festival. It usually sells out in less than 48 hrs of being on sale. I was able to attend, thanks to the encouragement of my wife who is the founder and editor of SobeSavvy.com. The social butterfly herself took me to lunch at Beer and Burger Restaurant and told me to enter the Burgerbash Amstel Light photo contest on IG given by Burger Beast. I entered. Guess what? I WON ! See winning picture here titled “Spin the Bottle” :

image

Off I went to the Burger Bash. What a spectacle. Every imaginable variation of a burger was represented by dozens of restaurants nationwide. Even Al Roker was there in the flesh manning the grill!  Burgers were paired with Amstel Light and Menage A Trois wines …it was a night to remember! The cover band was great. They helped all of us dance some of those burgers off.

image

image

image

image

Special shout out to the ladies at Hard Rock Miami. Heyden and Elise both had a infectious spririt that exemplified the entire event.

image

image

image

image

Lure Fish Bar won the Judges’ trophy. Celebrity judge Chrissy Teigen really enjoyed the vibe. Lure won with a burger with sweet rich bacon-onion jam.
Pincho Factory won the People’s Choice award.  With it’s Croquetesa burger. A triple meat patty blend, with Swiss cheese .

No one left hungry. Everyone left smiling. Epic success!

#OutandAboutAva visits @JungleIsland #SOBEWFF #FunandFit #Family #Foodie #Event ~ Recap by #SobeSavvy

image

On Saturday, February 21, 2015, my family joined other kids, parents and aspiring young chefs at Jungle Island, South Florida’s favorite landmark attraction, for the eighth annual Fun and Fit as a Family sponsored by Carnival featuring Goya Kidz Kitchen. Produced by the Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by FOOD & WINE, this family-friendly affair brings together celebrity chefs, culinary personalities, health and fitness professionals, and more for a fun weekend in an off-the-beaten path, jungle-like setting. The $20 advanced purchase ticket price makes this extraordinary experience affordable and accessible to all.

image

Each year, children get up-close-and-personal with an impressive group of chefs and culinary talent in the Goya Kidz Kitchen. The 2015 roster includes demonstrations by Todd English, Duff Goldman, Ingrid Hoffmann, Robert Irvine, Rev Run & Justine Simmons, and Andrew Zimmern.

image

“This is the demo I look forward to more than any other all year long. I get to directly impact the lives of children, and engage with them one-on-one during Fun and Fit as a Family,” says Andrew Zimmern, host of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods. “Kids don’t come with a set of instructions, and I feel obligated to help families make the cooking connection that makes for better health and better relationships.”

image

image

Kids also experiment with all the major food groups in the Whole Foods Market Food Lab, which is being hosted this year by Reed Alexander. The famous cookbook author and former Nickelodeon star invites children six years of age and up to prepare hands-on recipes using fresh and healthy ingredients. Alexander served as commentator for the Food Lab featuring Lorenzo Boni of Barilla America; Adrianne Calvo with Panda Kitchens; Latin Chef and TV personality, Doreen Colondres with the National Pork Board; and local favorite, Dewey Losasso.

image

Jungle Island’s natural environment, animal exhibits as well as physical fitness activities, provided by Florida International University, keep the entire family active at the attraction’s Garden Outpost and private beach. Thanks to sponsors including Badia Spices, Baptist Health South Florida, Barilla, Goya Foods and Carnival Cruise Lines, parents and kids get to enjoy additional activities and healthy snacks around the park.

image

image

image

image

The purpose of Fun and Fit as a Family is to educate children and parents about healthy lifestyle options in a hands-on manner. It’s an accessible, fun-filled event that presents families with realistic tips. Vibrant activities from Carnival and interactive experiences combine with wholesome food samplings and culinary demonstrations for a truly well rounded event.

My family believes that through daily exercise and smart food choices, we can have a fun filled, better quality of life! For more information about this event can be found at SOBEWFF’s Fun and Fit as a Family
Next year be sure to “Walk this Way” with the entire family and celebrate healthy eating and living!
