Celebrate @FoodNetwork#TheBestThingIEverAte Rugby Crepe at @SimplyCrepes #RaleighNC @LafayetteVil

Disclaimer: Thanks to our friends at Simply Crepes Raleigh for hosting SobeSavvy.com and inviting us to try their Rugby Crepe!

Since moving to Raleigh almost 4 years ago, I have managed to find a few of my favorite restaurants here. One of them is Simply Crepes. Located in the fashionable Lafayette Village, Simply Crepes is a family owned homage to everything crepes. Savory and Sweet rule the day here. I have always told all my friends and family about the place. I am glad to announce they will soon be known to millions more. Simply Crepes will have their own featured segment on the iconic Food Network show called “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” on April 8!

Entering it’s 10th season, this show highlights what and where celebrity chefs and hosts of Food Network Programs like to eat on their off time and on their own dime. Chef Fabio Viviani (whom I had the pleasure to meet/interview in Miami in 2015 and dine at his restaurant Siena Tavern Miami), is the breakout star of the reality show Top Chef who now owns various eateries and restaurants nationwide! He stopped by Simply Crepes in NY while on a business trip in the area and was impressed by the food to say the least. There was one crepe in particular that he fell in love with. It is called The Rugby Crepe.

Simply Crepes calls this their homage to the Big Mac. Shaved Angus Steak , crisp lettuce, cheddar cheese, pickles, sauteed onions on a sesame seed crepe! Chef Fabio Viviani approached the owners to be on the show. They agreed and as they say, the rest is history. I had a chance to try this crepe with the option of adding applewood bacon and agree with Chef. It is amazingly good! The best part was the Russian dressing. I could seriously put that on everything!

Simply Crepes also has some incredible sides to go with this now famous item. Their Brussell Sprouts are something to behold. Crispy, with balsamic and goat cheese crumble. You may also want to try their loaded potatos as tasty side or one of their delicious soups. I recommend the Creamy Potatoe and Bacon Chowder. No matter which starter or side you choose, save room for dessert. The Bananas & Creme Crepe is the perfect sweet ending to your meal.

SobeSavvy Tip: Visit Simply Crepes on Mimosa Monday’s and you get half price mimosa’s and also $20 Mimosa Carafe’s. They offer 4 different flavors for your choosing. It is the perfect way to celebrate with Simply Crêpes!

Make sure you tune into ‘The Best Thing I Ever Ate‘ on the Food Network on April 8 to see the Simply Crepes feature. Better yet come through Simply Crepes today and try it for yourself. It may end up the best thing YOU ever ate!

Happy #TastyThursday #TeaFreaks ! Open Now @McAlistersDeli #Raleigh #NC off Capital Blvd #McAlistersDeli

On Monday, July 25th , McAlister’s Deli celebrated its Grand Opening of its newest location at 5505 Capital Boulevard in Raleigh, NC ! As a North Raleigh resident, I was happy to learn McAlister’s Deli is now open and serving the community.

Known for serving “American Regional favorites” with a smile, this restaurant serves good food and great tea to wash it all down with. Did you know there was a cult following of “tea freaks” who love McAlister’s Famous Sweet Tea?! Well, I have a confession..my name is Leslie and I am a tea freak.

Yesterday I went to the new location in Raleigh with my husband and daughter. While I was familiar with their beverage menu, I had never tried their food. Their menu is not your typical deli menu because it offers so much more than just hot/cold sandwiches. For example, McAlister’s serves nachos for starters, entree salads, giant stuffed potatoes known as ‘Spuds’, desserts and they offer a variety of vegetarian options.
For our almost 5 year old foodie, we ordered from the kids menu. Her choice of mac & cheese included a drink (she loved the strawberry lemonade), a side item (fruit cup was selected) and a treat (graham crackers).  The Just For Kids menu is suitable for kids 12 and under and for $3.59 it’s a great value !

My husband was in the mood for a good sandwich, and by the looks of the menu he came to the right place. Hot Sandwiches, Grilled Sandwiches,Classic Sandwiches, Club Sandwiches..OH MY ! He went with the Spicy Southwest Chicken Griller and opted to substitute the baguette with a croissant. In my opinion, (yes, he thankfully offered me to have a bite ) it was not too spicy but oh so flavorful. It was served with a pickle and a choice of side (he got chips).

Speaking of spice, variety is the spice of life and McAlister’s Deli has a ‘Choose 2’ option for those of us who loves variety! I went with a cup of potato soup and their seasonal pecan berry salad. It was so good, especially once I added gorgonzola cheese to it. And of course with me being a tea freak and all, I ordered a peach sweet tea and wildberry tea. Very refreshing!

We also enjoyed a sweet ending to our meal by trying two of their desserts: A fresh baked sugar cookie for her (she read the word cookie on the window before we even got in and thought she could have that for dinner, thanks McAlister’s Deli) and a brownie for us.

Thumbs up for the sugar cookie!

Some things I learned from our visit (besides how tasty everything is) :

  • McAlister’s Deli does catering
  • Online ordering is available at www.mcalistersdeli.com
  • There are 27 locations in North Carolina (lucky me!)
  • Tea by the Gallon is on the menu for $8.00 ( tea freaks rejoice! )

From the smiling greeter at the door to the delicious food we were served, our first dining experience with McAlister’s Deli Raleigh/Capital Blvd was enjoyable and filled with tasty memories ! We will definitely be back.

Cheers and Welcome to the neighborhood!

On Wednesday Feb. 19, I was among the more than 100 media personalities/outlets in attendance for the First Annual #JITG9 Foodie-Focus at the Betty Ferguson Auditorium in Miami Gardens. I had a chance to enjoy the best food that will be for sale at the music festival. There will be 50 food stations at Jazz In The Gardens 2014 . Six of the most popular festival chefs from Jazz in the Gardens served up their greatest hits for the media : conch salad, seafood, Jamaican and Caribbean cuisine, BBQ, dessert and more!

On March 15 and 16, 50 festival chefs will be at their Food Village for their 9th year. This year’s food lineup equals the stage performers: LL Cool J, Jamie Foxx, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Trey Songz, Kelly Rowland, Mint Condition, Anthony Hamilton, Stanley Clarke, Rachelle Farrell and Boney James.

“There isn’t a better place to eat in South Florida than right here. It’s nice to be able to try a little bit of everything, I can’t decide what I like best. The BBQ is amazing, Chef Winston’s seafood rice is incredible, Keith Reed’s conch salad is the best I’ve ever had, the jerk chicken at the Kingston Delight is the best in South Florida, CuzN Tim’s seafood is super fresh and seriously, the Fruitzen Delite Italian ice is the best I’ve ever had,” said Melissa Dunn, Tamarac.
