The event, expected to blow the minds and tantalize the palates of attendees, featured 15 marquee chefs each creating a dish to pair with a select Brewery Ommegang beer, ultimately escalating the ecstatic flavors of each culinary creation.

image

Five Cubed introduced food lovers to great beer, and beer lovers to great food, in a stimulating social setting, held on the 7th floor of 1111 Lincoln Road with a 360 degree breathtaking view of Miami Beach. Guests sampled food prepared by 15 culinary purveyors and complemented by Brewery Ommegang beer. Five Cubed is the event where premium Brewery Ommegang beer and spectacular cuisine collide.

The 200 Five Cubed VIP guests enjoyed a 5-course sit-down dinner, immediately preceding the main event, to be served at a royal table. Debuting at 6:00 p.m., dinner will be prepared by Sean Brasel, Alex Chang, Johnny Sheehan, Adrianne Calvo and Brad Kilgore, each preparing a specially selected dish to pair with a Brewery Ommegang beer.

image

Starting at 8:00 p.m., the main event showcased the culinary talents of all 15 chefs with Brewery Ommegang selections at tasting stations in the sky high above Miami Beach. The evening featured the chic sounds of DJ Danny Stern. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Little Lighthouse Foundation.

image

Color me impressed with all fifty shades of grey and then some!  I thought the movie adapted well from the book. Viewers not familiar with the book will enjoy it as much as the readers. While the movie could not be as “graphic” as the novel, it has the spirit, sexiness and sensuality that the book had. This a great date night movie or a fun girls night out. Beware, your bottom may be a little tender when you leave :}

#SobeSavvy Presents #BeachyBrunches ! Vol 9: @VintroKitchen @VintroHotels #SundayBrunch #Bottomless #Brunch #MiamiBeach #SouthBeach #Miami

image

What do you get when you combine the words “vintage” and “retro” ? VINTRO ! That’s the name of a new restaurant and bar that is making waves here in South Beach. http://vintrohotels.com/kitchen/

Collins Park neighborhood is the art and cultural hub on the beach and Vintro Kitchen fits in perfectly. Art is everywhere in the hotel and restaurant. Paintings, photographs and unique pieces adorn the public and private spaces. Art is such an emphasis here that it’s website states… “Love that picture in your room? You can purchase it from Vintro’s Pop-Up gallery. Our exclusive limited editions are curated by Zoel. Serving as a hub for emerging and established local and international artists, the gallery displays over 50 amazing works to inspire our senses”. Since the restaurant is the namesake of a 50 room uber stylish and funky boutique hotel, I had hoped it would live up to my expectations. Having spent considerable time in Europe, Vintro immediately transported me back to similar spots on the Cote D’Azure. Lots of wood and leather backed chairs and booths. Vintro Kitchen also has a fabulous indoor and outdoor space. This is achieved by basically having an opened back wall that expands on a beautiful terrace/patio on the canal.

On this breezy and easy Sunday they had a acoustic guitarist complementing the mood. Out on the terrace they have master grill chefs making all sorts of goodness. Lamb chops, chicken and also a cauldron of paella at your disposal. Unique indeed. An air of relaxation permeated the restaurant. It feels more like brunch at a friends country home in Nice,France. We had bottomless mimosas, champagne and sangria. Our glasses were never empty. Vintro had an amazing buffet of all your favorites. Creamy scrambled country fresh eggs, French toast and sausage for brunch purists. They were shucking oyters. Kumomota oysters that is. Fresh pastries and fresh cut fruit adorned the center of the restaurant. Later in the afternoon they had a beautiful woman dropping off langostines at all of the tables. What a yummy touch at a yummy brunch. Art work was present everywhere. What else could one want on a Sunday afternoon.

Service was awesome and the crowd was a perfect balance of locals and hotel guests. This is a gem not to be missed. I ran into Gerry Kelly. Mr Kelly is a iconic marketing legend in Miami. Vintro Kitchen is one of his clients. His affable spirit was infectious. The friendly head chef Keith Suarino made his rounds to interact with the guests. He advised that since they are a new brunch spot that he is still playing with the brunch menu. Rustic Mediterranean is how he described the cuisine. I describe it as deliciously delightful. Foodies should put this on their bucket list when seeking a brunch with style and comfort. Vintro Kitchen is a force to be reckoned with. May the force be with you….At Vintro Kitchen.

Books and Family Fun with #OutandAboutAva @MiamiBookFair #MBFI31 #GenGenius ~Recap by #SobeSavvy!

image

Every year in November, Bookworms unite at The Miami Book Fair International Presented by The Center for Literature and Theater at Miami Dade College. It is the nation’s largest literary event and we have made it a family tradition to go every year !

The mission of Miami Book Fair International is to promote reading, encourage writing, and heighten an awareness of literacy and the literary arts in our multi-ethnic community.

This year, we focused on the fabulous children’s program with our 3 year old Ava. She loves books and we wanted to share our perspective of the fair thru her eyes as well as ours. We picked up a guide at our local Starbucks and planned for our day at the book fair.

We attended the Street Fair on Saturday , Nov. 22, 2014. The weather was not the usual sunny day Miamians enjoy, however that did not stop us or others from enjoying the fair. There were plenty of activities for the kids to enjoy at the Generation Genius Children’s Alley. Puppets, music, dancing, author readings, face painting, photo booths, games and book shopping are just some of the tons of things available to do for kids of all ages!

We met a local Mom/Teacher and Author named Leneen Faith. She has set out to make learning and caring fun with a child’s book series: Peacebe and the Heartwatch. Ava was attracted to the illustrations, which we learned are done by the author’s brother David Cambell. Each book corresponds to a different character trait and we picked the one about helping around the house, called Peacebe’s Messy Room. #SobeSavvy Recaps @Acura #AcuraLive #HandmadeEvents Presents #PopUpMiami @PopUpDinnerMiami 11/8/14

The PopUp Dinner Miami presented by Acura welcomed their inaugural event to Miami for the first time and SobeSavvy.com was there to capture the festivities!
http://www.handmade-events.com/pop-up.php

The white themed picnic  took place in an exciting secret location and featured a special appearance by DJ Zen Freeman, courtesy of Acura. Whole Foods Market® , which has a new store opening downtown at 299 SE 3rd Ave, Miami, joined the pop up dinner experience as an official purveyor.

The PopUp Dinner Miami benefiting Pérez Art Museum Miami, PAMM, is an elegant, mass “pop up” picnic that encourages guests to be spontaneous and creative with their attire, culinary choices, and table design. This evening of revelry under the stars draws a crowd of thousands who are instructed to come dressed in chic white as they execute their own lavish table decorations and bring inspired cuisine and beverages – all which reflect a love for dining in style with friends in Miami. The exact location was disclosed to ticket holders via email just two hours before the event on November 8th.

So we dressed in all white and headed out on a beautiful, warm Miami night to  Virginia Key. A empty grass field was transformed into a otherworldly white paradise. Tikki torches illuminated the area. Hundreds of Miamians were dressed in mandatory white. Some formal. Some casual. All beautiful. My hubby and I settled into our seats for this unique experience. We were not disappointed. People brought all sorts of goodies for this very special nighttime uber picnic. We sampled various dishes and libations. Sharing amongst strangers is one of the main points of this event. The full moon was aglow and so were the guests. Sponsor Acura had a neat photo booth set up inside one of their vehicles. Entertainment was an awesome R&B singer and an exciting DJ. The dance floor became crowded as the evening went on. Chinese lanterns were released for good luck. It was a great evening to be alive. In white.

#SobeSavvy Recaps @SOBESEAFOODFEST #CHEFSHOWDOWN @ THE SEAFOOD & SNEAKERS BALL!

The 2nd Annual Hess Select South Beach Seafood Festival brought forth Miami culinary flair and swanky fashion at new event before Festival Day.

While the main Saturday Festival was the talk of the town, the Chef Showdown at the Seafood & Sneakers Ball offered the most exclusive ticket in town for sea-foodies on Friday, October 24, 2014. This event served as the sizzling appetizer before the main event and featured Miami’s finest culinary master chefs showcasing amazing seafood dishes along with some fun and fashion as a complete “Made in Miami” experience!

Miami is all about style and the Seafood & Sneakers Ball, sponsored by Range Rover and Bacardi, showed how Miamians do things just a little bit differently. Taking place at 9th & Ocean Drive in the GOYA Culinary Pavilion at the event site, the Chef Showdown @ the Seafood & Sneakers Ball featured Miami’s finest, participating in cook-offs on the 305-KITCHEN.com demo stages throughout the venue, hosted by none other than Celebrity Chef and current owner of Naked Taco, Ralph Pagano. Attendees participated in the public vote as guests visited the Chef’s restaurant tasting stations around the event space, sampled their signature dishes showcased on the demo stages, and voted on who is the best in each showdown category. The “Cutting Board” experts also lended their expertise to assist in choosing the final winners at the end of the evening. Participating restaurants for the Chef Showdown included: Lure Fish bar, Siena Tavern, Red the Steakhouse, Florida Cookery, Oceanaire, Dolce Italian, City Hall, Café Avanti, CIBO, De Rodriguez, Naked Taco, Park Central, and Poseidon.
