“Hey, a new burger spot is opening, wanna check it out?” That’s how I asked my husband to join me for the VIP Grand Opening of BUILT Custom Burgers, which is located in the Triangle’s New Alston Town Center. I want to think we all have heard about a new burger bar more than we care to remember. Part of it is our assumption that a burger is a burger is a burger. WELL, have I got some news for you….BUILT Custom Burgers is a speciality burger experience that offers a unique take on the classic burger! 

 I asked the marketing manager what sets them apart from the other various burger chains and he responded by challenging me to Five Questions regarding those “other” burger places:

1. Can you choose from 3 different bun choices like Brioche, Wheat or Gluten Free buns?

2. Do they have Applewood Smoked Bacon as a FREE topping? 

3. Do they have a vegan burger option?

4. Is guacamole a free topping at those places? 

5. Are they antibiotic and hormone free?

These 5 Reasons alone would be reason enough to love this place, but ultimately none of that means much if the burger is not good. After trying the ‘Carolina Style’ and the ‘The L.A. WAY’ we both can say their burgers are beyond GOOD! Both were juicy and uber flavorful.  We learned that the patties are made with 100% Angus Beef that is vegetarian-fed. You can also choose all-natural chicken, turkey or vegan veggie burgers made fresh daily from 11 different ingredients – all hand-formed and grilled to order.

No matter if you choose one of their suggested favorites or if you “build your own burger” from scratch, you can’t go wrong. They are a serious contender in any burger war that anyone wants to wage! With four premium protein options, five cheeses, 20 unlimited toppings, 10 flavorful sauces and the choice of three breads or two fresh greens, guests are encouraged to build a burger or bowl to meet their individual preferences.

On Saturday April 4, 2017, SobeSavvy.com joined beer lovers at a festival that celebrates the perfect pair: BEER and BACON! The Beer and Bacon Festival is known for being the Best Bacon Bash in The Triangle. If you love bacon and enjoy beer, this fest is for you! Drink Eat Relax, organized this fun event held at Town of Cary’s Booth Ampitheatre. Mother Nature was on our side because it was a gorgeous, sunny day…perfect for an outdoor beer festival!

The Beer & Bacon Tasting Session was from Noon-6pm with a Beer Tasting Session from 2pm – 6pm. Attendees got a chance to enjoy:

  • 75 Craft Beers
  • 15 Restaurants
  • 10 Bacons From Across the US… and lots of Piggy Love

This fun event has sold out for 3 years in a row! The ALL-YOU-CARE-TO-TASTE extravaganza comes complete with the best craft beers for your tasting pleasure… and of course the food of the Gods: BACON . I tasted a gourmet bourbon bacon fresh off the grill that I really enjoyed! Each guest got a souvenir glass and boundless portions of over 75 craft beers and all live entertainment, which was a 90’s cover band. The band was great..I mean who doesn’t love the 90’s ?!

This year the festival’s event planners changed their tickets up a bit based on guest feedback and suggestions. For instance, the early BEER & BACON TASTING SESSIONreduced the amount of tickets sold by over 20%. This allowed for less lines. Also there were NO THIRD PARTY TICKET SELLERS: Living Social, Groupon or whatever your favorite coupon site did not feature any of these tickets for sale.

It was the perfect day for listening to live music, enjoying the fun foodie exhibits, playing games or just relaxing on the grass with your lawn chair or blanket while having some beer and bacon! Looking to transform your body into a healthier you and have fun while doing it? Well CycleBar Brier Creek is just the place! I had a chance to check out a few of their spin classes at their premium indoor cycling studio located in the Brier Creek Shopping Center (next to AppleBee’s) and let me tell you it’s like a party on a bike with all the benefits of an awesome workout.

When I started going to CycleBar late November, everyone had the same question: Is it crazy intense ? My reply: it is intense but you would be crazy to not challenge yourself! That’s what a great cardio fitness workout does. Working out shouldn’t be something you dread – it should calm your mind, elevate your mood and revive your senses. That is what they do at CycleBar with fitness classes that feel part sanctuary, part concert.

With spinning, the instructors known as the CycleStars, guide you and suggest how intense you can go. However, you go at your own pace and adjust to what you feel comfortable with. Got the midweek blues ? Well we have some great news ! Grab your friends and coworkers and head to Dean’s Seafood Grill & Bar for one of their wine/beer socials on Tuesday and/or Thursday. They are held 6:30-7:30p at the restaurant and feature three wines or beers paired with delicious hors d’oeuvres.

On Thursday October 8, 2015, SobeSavvy.com joined others for their first wine social featuring South African Wines. It was an intimate sit down, fun and educational experience. Each wine was carefully selected to appeal to a wide range of palletes.

Macey Long from Long Beverage was the wine rep on hand to answer any questions. We learned a variety of wine facts, trivia and tips such as :
* Red Wine is at its best 2-3 hours after it has been opened.
* Hold your wine glass against a white piece of paper to see and enjoy the color
* Do not frown upon bottles of wine that do not have a cork but instead is a screw top or a “Stelvan” closure.
