    #Raleigh, Plan your Mothers Day Brunch NOW @Seasons52 @shopcrabtree #Seasons52 #SundayBrunch

This past Sunday, although rainy outside, my family and I found sunshine and the flavors of Spring inside Seasons 52. Located at Raleigh’s Crabtree Valley Mall, SobeSavvy.com was invited to review their Sunday Brunch menu. Disclaimer: My husband and daughter joined me for this complimentary dine, however the opinions are our own.

Since we arrived after 12pm, we thought we’d start off trying their “Brunch Sips” Seasons 52 is well known to be a top notch spot for creative craft cocktails, so we were not surprised by how refresing their Sangria is..(yes it is as good as it looks)

…and how unique their Bellinis are. He ordered the white peach and I tried the rasberry Bellini for the first time. It was really good. Cheers!

Our daughter had her own kid’s brunch menu to review. Take a look at all these tasty choices for children under 12!

I am glad she chose the Brick Oven Brioche French Toast because that meant we could taste as well. She opted to have the pecans on the side and even ordered extra as those brown sugar pecans were so good, so addictive!

Before our brunch entrees came out, the Chef sent out an amuse bouche of their housemade orange marmalade, greek yogurt mousse with granola. It’s available also a mini starter and a great way to get your tastebuds ready for more amazing flavors.

On the Sunday Brunch Menu, there’s an array of creative entrees suited for anyone. Whether you choose sweet or savory, breakfast fare or lunch, Seasons 52 has one of the best gourmet menus that is very health conscious. I like how they actually list the calorie content of their dishes. Its good to know that the dishes we had not only taste good, but were good for us too! Here’s what we ate at Seasons 52 during their Sunday Brunch.

    STARTERS

Hi my name is Leslie and I love Shrimp & Grits. So when I saw this listed on the menu, I knew I had to order it. I was not disappointed. The combination of cheesy grits, chorizo sausage and large shrimp were amazing! Warning it is not a shareable if you really love shrimp and grits. You are gonna want it all to yourself!

If you are looking for a shareable try the Meditteranean Hummus …Duck Lollipops (my least fave of the 3 only because it is a bit too gamey for me)

…or one of their flatbreads.  Lox on bagel lovers should definitely order the Smoked Salmon Flatbread. Our server Amy advised that it was one of her favorites and I really enjoyed Seasons 52 remix of this classic dish.

    ENTREES

Even though Sunday Brunch starts at 10 am and ends at 1pm, dishes from the regular menu are available to order. My foodie family loves variety and Seasons 52 definitely serves up an array of “whats good now” emphasizing on fresh, seasonal ingredients. We tried two of their recommended egg based dishes. First up was their S52 Eggs Benedict. They put a new twist on this classic dish by replacing the traditional ham/canadian bacon with..wait for it..poached lobster ! Yup, it tasted BETTER than it sounds!!

    Next we tried a beautiful dish served in a  ceramic dish called ShakShuka . This is a arabic middle eastern breakfast recipe of  of eggs poached in a sauce of tomatoes, chili peppers, and onions, spiced with cumin. They added chorizo and feta cheese. It was so flavorful and just such a pretty dish to look at {prior to eating it !}

Seafood lovers must try the seabass. Mine was cooked to perfection. It’s served on “Forbidden Rice”  which I had for the first time. I don’t forbid you in trying this sticky black rice at all. It went well with snap peas and other asian flavors used to prepare this entree. Absolutely loved it!

Another fave dish that all of us enjoyed is the Lamb Chops. You get a nice sized rack of lamb that my daughter called the rack of love because she loved the lamb chops. We all agreed that it was tender, well seasoned and simply delicious. Just check out the pic below that I shared along w/others via InstaStories on my IG @SobeSavvy

    DESSERT

We were full but still had room for dessert. They serve dessert in shot glass sized portions. Little glasses of heaven. Key Lime Pie, Pecan Pie, Red Velvet Cake..got your attention yet. Pick your favorite. All made in house daily. Incredible ending to an incredible brunch experience.

SobeSavvy Tip: At some of their locations, they have a secret cocktail that is not advertised, nor is it on any menu but can be made upon request. But here in Raleigh, it is listed and goes by the name “Botanical Buzz”. We tried it and I will say its for the bold and not the faint of heart. After enjoying it, join the fun by sharing your reaction on Twitter and Instagram using #BotanicalBuzz

Still looking for a unique place to take mom on Mothers Day then look no more. Seasons 52 is the kind of place any mom would love to spend time at on her special day. Make reservations now to reserve your spot.

    Where to Dine in #Atlanta 3 #FamilyFriendly Restaurants: #TheCowfish #BoneFishGrill #Brio

We are in Atlanta for #outandaboutAva’s first spring break. Epic eats are essential when on vacation, so we sought out some of our favorite family friendly restaurants while here in Atlanta, Georgia. When we eat out as a family, we require any restaurant we choose to have at least the following criteria:

    • Booths. Only parents know the true value of being able to keep a child sequestered on the inside seat of a booth !
    • Kids Menus. A restaurant must make a special effort to cater to kids. Some adult menu items do not translate easily to the palettes of a 5 yr old
    • Activity Booklets. Although we live in the tech world, old fashioned coloring books and puzzles with crayons still do the trick of occupying them until the food comes.
    • Variety. We need choices suitable for all of our tastes AND a bar menu featuring a cocktail and wine list for Mom/Dad because we deserve it!

Our Top 3 restaurants that made our ‘Where to Dine in Atlanta’ list has all the above and more. Check out out thoughts below.

The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar Atlanta

From the moment we walked up to the The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar Atlanta, you could tell we were going to have a fun dining experience! Located at Atlanta’s Perimeter Mall, This is the first and only Georgia outpost of this North Carolina based restaurant. Their unique take on food has made The Cowfish stand out from the crowd.

They have a huge cowfish statue named Nugget and fun games out front. Between the bean bag toss and the plinko game, my daughter was having so much fun outside she didn’t want to come in! But once inside she was fascinated by the REAL cowfish they have in the aquarium and the wonderful kids activities menu with crayons at the table.

The Cowfish aims to offer something for the entire family. Scrumptious appetizers for sharing, entree-sized salads, homemade desserts and a fun kid’s menu are joined by their signature creations such “Burgushi”! A cutting edge fusion of burger and sushi, burgushi items include sushi rolls created using burger components, and pick-up style sandwiches created using sushi components. Since we loves sushi +burgers+bar(for the parents), The CowFish ended up being the perfect choice for our lunch date. They have such a pretty extensive menu, but thankfully it is broken down and explained by the helpful wait staff.

For  an appetizer it was recommended we try the Lobster & Crab Spring Rolls. It was 4 towers of goodness filled with lobster meat. It came with a trifecta of sauces: cilantro pesto, thai chili sauce, spicy honey marmalade The sauces were so good, I ordered extra! Uber fresh, uber delicious! Simply amazing!

For our entrees, we all got the bento box lunches as a way to try a little of everything they had to offer. The Cowfish Bento Box and Fusion Specialty Bento Box are a great way to go to sample a mini-burger along with your choice of sushi roll and tasty side items! My little girl enjoyed her lunch too. Their kids menu is unlike any other I have ever seen. Sophisticated choices, yet very kid simple palette friendly. She had their California Roll Bento box. It came with edamame, which she loves and even a rice crispy treat with a candy cowfish gummy bear on top..plus a fun tattoo!

We split a very BIG slice of their Chef Dave’s Not Factory Made Cheesecake delicious, creamy almond coconut cheescake! We put a dent in it but can you say “a to go box please” !

The Cowfish satisfies both kids and adults alike. If you enjoy a creative handcrafted cocktail, don’t miss a chance to try any from their list. The Moscow Muleshine for Him and the Itsy Bitsy Tini-Weenie Fresh and Berry Great Martini for me has now made it our favorite libations list!

SobeSavvy Tip:  Great news for you Birmingham foodies! The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar is coming to The Summit near Saks Fifth Avenue and slated to open summer 2017!  Now you can see what Charlotte, Raleigh, Orlando and Atlanta fans love about this restaurant

    Bonefish Grill -Akers Mill Square/ATL

My family loves fresh seafood which makes dining at Bonefish Grill a great idea always! They have a newly opened restaurant in Akers Mill Square in Atlanta, where we enjoyed their new items on their spring menu.  Bonefish Grill, known as the fresh fish experts, are off to a healthy spring start by adding Sea Scallops to the menu. We shared the delicious Applewood Bacon Wrapped Scallops starter, featuring four tender scallops wrapped in Applewood bacon and topped with a tasty mango salsa.Lucky for us parents, Bonefish Grill just launched their Hand-Crafted Happy Hour served 4-6:30 p.m. every day, including weekends, starting April 3*.  We dined while their redefined happy hour was in full swing. Unlike some restaurants, Bonefish Grill allows any diner to order from their special hand crafted happy hour menu no matter if seated at the bar or dining at a table in the main room. We had two of their handcrafted cocktails off of their happy hour menu ($5). The Tropical Tiki Martini and a Fresh Margarita were both superb!Although this is a casual yet sophisticated restaurant, it is also really kid friendly. Kids get their own menu and activity book and crayons to go with it. Her beverage of choice..a shirley temple customized with extra cherries~thanks Bonefish Grill! Her fave from the kids menu is their popcorn shrimp, so that was what she ordered.

Our #HeighPartyof3 believes 3 is the magic number and so does Bonefish Grill with their new Hooked on Tuesday menu special. Starting at $14.90, you get a 3-course meal that includes a fresh salad, entree and decadent dessert.

If you love Salmon, it served many ways at Bonefish Grill.  I choose to have it grilled with pesto and mango salsa (it’s so addictive)  on the side. From the seasonal menu try Cedar Plank Norwegian Salmon – Roasted on a cedar plank, topped with a seasonal glaze of sweet honey and savory Dijon, served with jasmine rice and a vegetable medley of fresh asparagus, button mushrooms, pearl onions, and peas.

For a sweet ending to your meal, I highly recommend the Jen’s jamaican coconut pie. Warning.. this is the one dessert that is not kid friendly because they use a Meyer’s Rum sauce that compliments the dessert well.

And, for dessert from the seasonal menu, try the perennial favorite Strawberry Shortcake! Our daughter loved the made in house whipped cream and fresh strawberries.

    For more information, visit http://www.bonefishgrill.com.

*Hand-Crafted Happy Hour is available at participating Bonefish Grill restaurants.

    BRIO Buckhead-Atlanta

BRIO Tuscan Grille is a favorite of my family because of the variety of tasty dishes on their menu. When I learned that BRIO Tuscan Grille has two locations in Atlanta at Buckhead and Perimeter Mall, I knew they should be added to our “Where to Dine” list during our visit. They say variety is the spice of life and BRIO is  embracing this philosophy with an array of new dishes on the “A Variety of Flavors” lunch and dinner menus. Available Tuesday, Feb. 28–Saturday, April 15, the menus present two exciting new appetizers, three entrées (including two mouthwatering seafood dishes), a divine dessert, and delightful wine options. Here is what we tried from the menu:

     Appetizers

    ·         Calamari Fritto Misto: Peperoncini, aioli, Pomodoro; $10.75 at lunch, $11.75 at dinner

*This was enough for my family of 3 to share and it we had fun dipping the calamari into the two sauces.

    Entrées

    ·         Peroni Beer-Battered Fish & Chips: North Atlantic cod, fries, Brussels sprout slaw; $17.95

    ·         Braised Beef Pappardelle: Rosemary pappardelle, crimini mushrooms, roasted carrots, red onions,  tomato porcini sauce; $21.95

    * Fish for him, Beef for me. We both loved our dishes so much, we didn’t share..lol I’m looking at the picture wondering what the brussels sprout slaw tasted like? He said it was all very good and he hopes they keep it on the menu. The braised beef was very tender and full of flavor. The portion was very much family style anf meant for sharing..but I didn’t. It was that good!

    Dessert

    ·         Butterscotch Budino: Italian for “pudding,” Marcona almonds, caramel, vanilla whipped cream; $3.95

*The perfect sweet ending to a great meal.

Serving as perfect complements to these special dishes are BRIO’s exquisite wine selections, which this Mom and Dad appreciates! Suggested wines are the light, fruity and elegant Sketchbook Pinot Noir (Mendocino, California); and the lush and silky Benziger Family Winery Chardonnay (Sonoma, California).

We enjoyed their unique flavors with a Tuscan twist, and #outandaboutAva liked their special Children’s Menu.

    #Miami #Foodie Alert @ChefDee305_ ‘s The #EmptyPlates Restaurant Grand Opening 4/14 #MediaPreview Recap

On Tuesday, April 11, SobeSavvy.com joined invited media guests to taste Chef Dee’s dishes during a private launch of her new restaurant , The Empty Plates.

Chef Dee, who is also DJ Khaled’s Personal Cook, is bringing major key flavors to the streets in North Miami this coming spring. The Grand Opening is happening this Friday, April 14th in Miami’s Little River neighborhood. Empty Plates’, a restaurant extension of catering company, will be serving up soul food fusion including Shrimp n’ Grits, Jerk Chicken Pasta, Variety of Signature Wings, and more. They don’t want you to eat like the stars but Chef Dee is breaking that stigma by offering prices catered to locals from $3 sides to $13 meals.

During the intimate tasting, guests tried the Jerk Chicken pasta and the ribs, which I suggest you make plans to go bavk and try more of! Belaire Rose was served as the libation for this celebration.

Here is a small video clip of Chef Dee, who came out to talk with us about her restaurant/menu.

Amazing Eats @SimplyCrepes #Raleigh for Best Chicken-Waffles, Patio Dining & NEW Spring Menu !

Disclaimer: Thank you Simply Crepes for inviting us to feature your new Spring Menu. Although the restaurant hosted us, all opinions are 100% my own, courtesy of my tastebuds.

Spring has sprung and here in the triangle that means alot of things. Robins are singing, bumblebees return and most of all , IT’S PATIO AL FRESCO DINING AGAIN TIME !!

We can think of no better place to kick off outside eating than a trip to Simply Crepes, located in beautiful Lafayette Village in North Raleigh.

They invited SobeSavvy to sample a few items off of their brand new Spring seasonal menu. We visited pre sunset on a gorgeous Sunday late afternoon and took advantage of their outside space adjacent to the grass courtyard.

Once seated we started with their “spring fling” Wine Flight. Rose’, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay were served.

We had an order of their now iconic brussell sprouts served w/bacon and goat cheese. The Chardonnay complimented this dish well. This dish is the ONLY brussel sprouts that my husband EVER EVER eats. It is THAT good !

Next up was their Le Cordon Bleau crepe. Filled with ham and chicken in a scrumptious sauce, this dish was superb with a glass of Pinot Grigio.

Simply Crepes decided to do their own new unique twist on a old time favorite. CHICKEN AND WAFFLES ANYONE ? The “waffle” is a crepe of course and the chicken is crispy fried chicken tossed in their maple bourbon sauce served over smoky apple wood bacon. THIS.WAS.PAST.GOOD.

I have had a myriad of this staple dish over the years. Had it up north, had it down south and frankly it was played out in my mind. Not anymore ! The flavors all combined to make a heavenly dish. The chicken was so tender and the maple bourbon sauce is incredible.

The crepe at the bottom just soaks up all this goodness. Oh, it also comes with a side of bacon creme sauce !!

Our little one wasn’t that hungry and opted for their great creme brulee oatmeal. Yes. It tastes as good as it sounds !

Mimosa Monday and Wine Wed are always great times to enjoy their wine deals

Simply Crepes make it a point to always local source when they can and openly list their suppliers for all to see

Don’t forget to check the board for their specials !

The sun was setting and our meal was over. Great dinner on a great early evening enjoying the warm breeze. Make simply crepes a must do dinner choice and ask for an outside seat!

    Photo Recap 5th Annual Bull City Food & Beer Experience @BullCityEXP @DPAC #Durham #soNCsavvy

    #FoodieFriday Spotlight on #NasherCafe ~ Weekend Brunch in #Durham #NasherMuseum

Yesterday, I shared highlights from my recent visit to the Nasher Museum with my family. Well no visit is complete without dining at the Nasher Cafe.

Winner of Open Table Diners Choice 2015, it did not disappoint. It’s set in a open bright area adjacent to the museum lobby with patio dining available.

The restaurant is one of the many culinary dining experiences of the Giorgios Hospitality Group. A native of Greece, Giorgios Bakatsias has been the creative force behind more than 25 restaurants, food venues and gourmet markets in the Triangle.

    KIDS MENU

My daughter ordered off the kids menu for fruit plate and her own little deconstructed sandwich.

Crayons and coloring options to spark your lil one’s creativity

Hot Chocolate Smiles..no whipped cream but the staff customized with steamed milk foam and chocolate drizzle. How fun!

The kids menu is for ages 12 and below. All kids meals are served with choice of fresh fruit or kettle chips. #outandaboutAva loved dipping her apple slices in the nutella. Finger foods are a hit with kids!

    BRUNCH MENU

They have a special weekend brunch menu on Sat and Sundays. It was hard to choose when so many items looked appealing. We finally settled on the Steak and Eggs and the Fajita Omelette. Both were done to perfection.

    BRUNCH COCKTAILS

We had one of their specialty blackberry cocktails and a classic mimosa. These always mean “BRUNCH TIME” !!

    DESSERTS

Two cookies almost bigger than her face !

Molten Lava Cake was GOOOOD !!!!!

We all really enjoyed everything. Service was awesome and our waitress couldn’t have been better.

Perfect spot for culture and food in a stylish comfortable setting.

Looking for Family-Friendly eats in @TownofCary ?Head to Brixx Wood Fired Pizza @BrixxParkside #Yum

My husband’s first job as a teenager was at a pizza joint, so he is a pizza snob. He makes our pizza at home and is very particular about his pie. Because of him, my family LOVES PIZZA!  Always have. A few years back while visiting Rome, he needless to say, was in utopia. Many of those awesome pizza spots had one thing in common. Their pizza was baked in a brick oven. I did a little research as to why pizza in brick ovens just seemed “better” than pizza cooked in a traditional oven and here is the TMI answer :

Because of the high heat stored in the dense walls, the brick oven is designed to cook pizza very quickly. It takes approximately 2-3 minutes maximum for the pizza to cook.

Better crust – At such high temperatures, the radiant heat from the fire and the heat bouncing off the inside walls of the oven crisps the outside of the pizza very quickly. Any moisture in the dough is thus sealed off. This prevents the base of the dough from becoming soggy and results in a flavorful crust that’s puffy, yet soft and chewy.

Unique flavor – Only a wood-fired brick oven pizza imparts that unique smoky flavor that cannot be reproduced in a normal kitchen oven. The high temperature produces other flavors not achieved by slow cooking.

That being said, SobeSavvy was delighted to be hosted by BRIXX Wood Fired Pizza at Parkside Town Center this past weekend. With over 30 locations in 11 states, Brixx prides itself on being unique. Did you know they had 5 locations in the Triangle, 1 in Chapel Hill, 2 in Raleigh and two locations in Cary – in Parkside Town Commons and in Bradford Shops? We are lucky to have that many options nearby!

Much more than just a pizza and beer kinda place. The dining room was bright and colorful. They even have mini chalkboards for kids and kids at heart to be artists while sitting at the table !

At the bar, you’ll find they have over 24 craft beers on tap and 14 wines by the glass.

The foundation of its menu – traditional and whole wheat dough, focaccia bread, fresh mozzarella from Wisconsin cheese curd, meatballs, hummus, bruschetta and more – from scratch every morning and it shows or rather tastes ! We started with delicious tomato soup and a order of bruschetta . The focaccia toast was fresh and the balsamic glaze was divine over the roma and sun dried tomatoes!

I ordered the Chicken Florentine pizza and the wife ordered a Mediterranean Salad with grilled salmon on top. The salad was fresh and flavorful while my pizza was great!

My little one ordered penne pasta w/meatballs. She gave the thumbs up the way only a 5 yr old can! Service was superb and we even had root beer float to close out our first Brixx experience .

Brixx is dedicated to supporting the local environment as well, recycling everything possible and offering mostly draft beers to eliminate landfill waste.
We enjoyed our visit and look forward to trying some of their pasta dishes and sandwiches when we return.

SobeSavvy Tip: Take advantage of their #LateNightBOGO specials. Brixx has some of the best daily specials in Cary, including all bottles of wine half-priced Sundays and $2.50 craft drafts Mondays. Open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. – serving guests for lunch, dinner and late night eats. When other restaurants are cooling down, Brixx is heating up!

Although not at this location, Brixx at Bradford Shops offers a special lunch combo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday – enjoy a smaller version of any housemade pizza and a half salad, quality food delivered to your table in about 10 minutes from ordering. So whether for lunch or dinner, Brixx is there to satisfy your family’s Italian cravings !

#FoodieFriday Spotlight | The Table on Elm | Best CoffeeShop Eatery & Bakery in Downtown Greensboro

If you read my ‘Travel Tuesday’ blog post on Greensboro, NC , then you know my family I enjoyed our weekend in the Gate City. I shared where we played, where we stayed and wanted to give you a more in depth review of The Table on Elm as a ‘Where to Eat’ place when visiting Greensboro!

This little charming to go bakery/bistro/coffee shop has become a very popular place for all things fresh. The original eat in restaurant location is in Asheboro so some locals were already just waiting for this outpost to open. Their baked items are now iconic. Very fresh and their selections sometimes vary to keep things interesting. They also have ready to go salads and sandwiches. My daughter wanted a picnic so we stocked up on a salad, some soup, iced coffees and pastries and off we went. The service here was refreshingly genuine and competent. The ladies out front gave some great suggestions and I think we took them up on all of them. Their extensive coffee offerings have something for everyone. They also use fresh local dairies for their milk and make their own in house syrups. Some of which are for sale in the store. Local and fresh are the two words used here a lot and it shows.

So the next time you are in Downtown Greensboro and looking for a place to have a couple of espresso drinks, enjoy some dessert or baked goods or want to grab some sandwiches, salads or soup to go…..then tucked away in a lovely alleyway, adorned with murals and botanical wrought iron gates, lies a hidden gem that every Foodie should visit, The Table on Elm.
