New Live-Action Adventure ‘Peppa Pig’s Big Splash’ Brings Hit Nick Jr. TV Series to Life on Stage at DPAC on April 7, 2016. My daughter was so excited to see Peppa Pig’s first-ever U.S Live theatrical tour and could not wait to sport her ‘Peppa Pig’ tee to the show! She was ready to have more fun than a muddy puddle!
image

This live action show features a mix of life-size puppets/costume characters and stars Peppa Pig, from the top-rated TV series, airing daily on Nick Jr. “Peppa Pig is an absolute superstar among the preschool set and their families all across America and she will be making her biggest splash yet with the upcoming tour, now set to visit 65 additional cities in 2016,” said Jonathan Shank, Red Light Management, a producer of Peppa Pig’s Big Splash. “With many of the initial shows already sold out and many more performances added to accommodate the strong demand for tickets, Peppa Pig’s theatrical tour is proving to be one hot ticket for families this fall!”
image

In Peppa Pig’s Big Splash, the nursery roof is leaking and Peppa and her friends need to fix it quickly. They set up a fair to raise money so Mr. Bull can do the repairs. There’s plenty of fun to be had as Peppa, George, Mummy and Daddy Pig, along with Danny Dog, Pedro Pony and Suzy Sheep work together to organize an exciting day out complete with a Champion Puddle Jumping competition judged by Mr. Potato, where everyone gets wet! We found ourselves singing, dancing, laughing, and jumping in muddy puddles too- just like Peppa. We had a such a blast at Peppa Pig’s Big Splash!

Due to popular demand, “Peppa Pig’s Big Splash” has added 31 additional cities to its tour. That means the popular pig will be back at the Durham Performing Arts Center Sept. 27 at 6 p.m., extending the brand’s first-ever U.S. tour through fall 2016.

Recap #SpringTravel to @BaltimoreMD for @LightCityBmore

image

In February, we visited Charm City to explore the “Romantic Side of Baltimore” (read more here) and learned about the upcoming Light City Baltimore and immediately made family travel plans to return in the Spring. Since we enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Place Baltimore Inner Harbor East during our last visit, we knew that it would be the perfect location to walk to shops, restaurants and also most of the BGE Light Art Walk during the festival. When we arrived early Friday, we were thankful that staff was able to expedite check in and allow us to lounge in the cafe area until our room was ready. My 4 yr old immediately relaxed on the bed and tuned into her favorite TV show on the flat screen TV.
image

After we settled a bit, we visited the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture to learn how to start a Family Tree. Read our interview here with the Resource Center Manager, Lisa Crawley. We then parked our car and decided to explore this walkable city and head over to the HarborPlace, located in the heart of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Along the way we saw some of the Light Walk attractions and other installations by day. My daughter really enjoyed playing music on the oversized instruments and playing in the sound garden found in the Kiddie Light City area.

We had lunch at Phillips Seafood Baltimore because you can’t visit Baltimore without having some Maryland style seafood! See (here) why this is one of my favorite places to dine. Speaking of favorites, the LUSH Cosmetics store which was also walking distance from our hotel,  has natural skin care and bath & body products great for the entire family. Our room at the Hyatt Place Baltimore Inner Harbor East had a bathtub, so my daughter and I made it a point to go on a little Bath Bombs shopping spree at the LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics store, Harbor East location. Manager Mandee and her staff were very knowledgeable of the products and made it a very pleasant shopping experience. If you have any questions, like/follow them and ask via Facebook page . They are very responsive and provided great customer service both on and offline.

The Light City Baltimore Festival each night started at 7pm. It was a unique event featuring art, music, and culture -combined to showcase the city of Baltimore via light! On the first night it rained a bit but we were able to enjoy some of it Friday/Saturday. This free, family-friendly event was the nation’s first large-scale, light, music and innovation festival. Be sure to mark your calendars for Light City round two in March 2017! Check out this Visit Baltimore video clip of what to expect : https://youtu.be/K66hToPGvVI

Here are a few pics of what we saw during the evening:

Another attraction we enjoyed during our stay was the National Aquarium . You can arrange for tickets prior to going with the hotel concierge. Skip the line and just redeem voucher at Will Call…how convenient! If you are looking for family fun during your Baltimore stay, this is a must see place. Check out this video of their stunning jelly fish exhibit: https://www.instagram.com/p/BDtKlqkCXJl/

We ended our short but sweet weekend on a high note by dining at Wit & Wisdom for their Sunday Brunch. It is located in Harbor East as well at the Four Seasons Hotel. We had a wonderful view of the water and it was a delicious experience ! Read our full brunch review here and see why you should treat your tastebuds to a visit to this restaurant your next visit to Baltimore!

All in all, great family memories made during our Spring Break to the Charm City!

Baltimore has indeed become a hot spot for food lovers everywhere. That’s why we decided to visit one of the waterfront restaurants during a recent trip to Charm City. I’ve heard great things about Wit & Wisdom, A Tavern by Michael Mina and made reservations for their lavish Sunday Brunch Buffet.

Located in the hip Harbor East neighborhood inside of Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore, Wit & Wisdom offers quality cuisine made from locally sourced ingredients.

The artisan-inspired, interactive Sunday Brunch Buffet features live music, a carving station featuring one meat (grilled rib eye) and one fish entrée (roasted rockfish), make-your-own omelet station, roast-your-own s’mores, buttermilk pancakes, biscuits and gravy, yogurt parfaits, fresh salads and more delicious seasonal favorites that combine the best of breakfast and lunch!
A savory and sweet crepe station offered a unique brunch experience as seen here…..

I love seafood, so I was impressed by the raw bar featuring an array of shellfish with a fresh selection of local flavors including Old Bay–poached shrimp and Chesapeake oysters on the half shell. My sweet tooth was also satisfied by indulging in several mouthwatering desserts including a caramel bread pudding, and a variety of classic French pastries. Fit for a family, pint-sized patrons can enjoy a special kids bar featuring childhood favorites including mac ‘n’ cheese, PB&J, and chicken tenders.

With its wonderful waterside views and #witonthewater patio dining, Wit & Wisdom is the perfect place to treat yourself to a memorable meal or celebrate with a special brunch!
Hope you enjoy my photos featuring Wit and Wisdom’s interactive Sunday Brunch buffet!

The Heigh Five..5 Questions for Lisa Crawley, Resource Center Manager @LewisMuseum #ReginaldFLewisMuseum

image

Ever wanted to trace your family history? Starting your family genealogy can begin with a simple worksheet called a pedigree chart. This was something I learned after interviewing Lisa Crawley, the Resource Center Manager at Reginald F. Lewis Museum .

This museum celebrates the rich contributions of African Americans from Maryland and beyond through exhibitions, family activities, films, concerts, lectures and more. Located on the fourth floor of the museum, the Resource Center has a reference collection with a focus on African History and culture. When I learned that the center also helps members of the public trace their family history, I asked to meet with Ms. Crawley to answer Five Questions:

1. Can just anyone walk in here and do their own Genealogy Research at the Resource Center?

” Yes we will assist anyone on a walk in basis on Wednesdays and Fridays between 12 and 4pm. No appointment needed.”

2. What is the first step in researching your bloodline ?

” A person has to choose which side of their family do they have the most information about, the maternal or paternal to get started.”

3. What records are usually found first or the easiest in the search ?

” Census records usually are the foundation of an initial search. Once we find that it opens up alot of doors. In times past, multiple generations lived under one roof, so a wealth of information usually exists there that we can branch off into different directions. ”

4.What types of books are in the resource center and can people check the books out as they would in a library ?

“We are constantly adding books to our in house library. We have everything from first person slave narratives to books about African American achievements. People are free to come here onsite and access them but they cannot check them out.”

5. Do you ever have special events here at the resource center ?

“Yes, we currently have a speaker series where we host various experts come and speak about a particular topic. These are also open to the public. We have them listed on our website and also here posted at the museum.”

This Spring, be inspired to travel to Baltimore, visit the Resource Center at Reginald F. Lewis Museum and start your family tree !

SobeSavvy.com Reviews #InTheirOwnWords :The Tuskeegee Airman @FathomEvents #TuskeegeeAirman75 @BrytonEnt

image

Fathom Events and Bryton Entertainment are proud to bring In Their Own Words: The Tuskegee Airmen – The 75 Anniversary to select cinemas nationwide for a special one-night event on Tuesday, March 29.

SobeSavvy.Com headed to the movies to celebrate the historic heroes in this exclusive documentary event, which featured a panel discussion captured at the National Air Force Museum with Tuskegee Airman Lt. Col. George Hardy, Former Administrator of NASA Col. Fred Gregory, as well as the producer Bryan Williams and director Denton Adkinson.

In Their Own Words: The Tuskegee Airmen – The 75th Anniversary features 16 Tuskegee Airmen as they recall their incredible experiences through emotional interviews, rare photographs, archival footage and computer-generated recreations. Experience the tales and exploits of America’s first African-American fighter pilots who, by flying the skies of the European Theater during World War II, broke racial barriers stateside.

I watched as the Airmen remembered being some of the first to begin the civil rights movement and living long enough to see the changes that would continue to resonate today. What made this special was that first person account of how many obstacles all of them had to overcome to earn their wings. Racist superiors who thought they were not brave or smart enough to be fighter pilots. In a twist of fate, no other than the first lady Eleanor Roosevelt also helped to advance their cause when she choose to actually be flown by one of the airmen. Perceptions changed, albeit slowly.

Most of them were tasked with being bomber escorts on missions. Protecting and making sure B-52’s delivered their bombs on target was essential for winning the war. The bomber crews were always happy to see the airmen who painted their plane tails red, so everyone called them the “Red Tails”. They proved their mettle to the nation only to come home after the war and still face the virulent racial injustices that was still prevalent.

These patriots paved the way for black aviators of the future. They are true American heroes. Great story and great documentary.

#OutandAboutAva enjoys The Wolf @theatre_raleigh #TRTheWolf #Raleigh #FamilyFun #soNCsavvy

Hey Raleigh….are you afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? Well there is nothing to fear but lots to cheer for at this family friendly performance of The Wolf! This encore production is back by popular demand and runs from March 3-20 at the Kennedy Theatre.

Theatre Raleigh‘s Theatre for Young Audiences production of The Wolf is “a story of courage, redemption and baked goods.” The Wolf, played by the talented Quincy Ellis, is the antagonist from all your favorite Fairy Tales…  Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, and The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Remember all those cautionary tales from our childhood? Well now you have the opportunity to join Peter, Little Red and the Three Little Pigs as they band together to defeat the Wolf!

This Saturday, I attended the 3 pm show with my husband and 4 yr old daughter who was a bit concerned if the show was going to be “scary”. I assured her the wolf was not real and by the end of the show she was quite a fan of the wolf!
Our physical proximity to the production added a unique level of intimacy rarely seen in today’s performing arts. The story was told on a level that the kids could comprehend. Dancing and music are interwoven seamlessly in the play.
We watched the animals do popular dances like the “whip and nae nae ” on the farm. That was some very clever choreography to modernize these childhood classics and bring these stories up to date!
We got a chance to briefly meet Director/Choreographer, Lauren Kennedy and like her I am extremely excited about what Theatre Raleigh has planned for their new Family Series!
image

The Wolf is a celebration of the power of teamwork and determination. Great life lessons to learn for the whole family. Tickets are $15/adults and $10/children and are available at http://www.theatreraleigh.com.   Group rates available by calling the box office – 919-832-9997.

So grab the kids, tell your friends and plan to see a great show that brings dance, theatre and imagination together in a whole new way!

#FoodieFriday spotlight on @LocalsSeafood! From Boat to Table #NCseafood @ChadwickCreek oysters and more!

image

This Past Sunday, my family and I headed down to the famous Raleigh Farmers Market. This is where fresh food in any category can be found. We were there specifically for fresh seafood.

North Carolina is blessed in many way. One way in particular is geography. We have mountains and we have beaches. The Atlantic is literally at our doorstep in the Eastern part of the State. In these waters, some of the freshest seafood in the world thrives here. Lucky for us, Locals Seafood Company http://localsseafood.com/ just happens to provide this bounty to the public.

20160228_134414

Locals Seafood has a presence at the Triangle’s biggest weekend Farmers Markets. They can be found at farmers markets in Chapel Hill, Western Wake and of course in Raleigh. When we arrived there were a few enthusiastic customers ahead of us. Some of whom advised me that Locals Seafood is the ONLY place they buy their fresh seafood.

20160228_134843

Locals’ menu constantly fluctuates with what is in season and available. This guarantees only the freshest regional seafood is available for their loyal customers.

20160228_134835

Scallops, Sea Bass, oysters ,flounder and soft shell crabs were just a few items for sale at the market on Sunday.

We decided to get some soft Shell Crabs and make a soft shell crab Po Boy. Lightly fried in a mix of olive and vegetable oil…Semi Soft bread from our local baker worked well. We built it with dry cole slaw and Remoulade Dressing. Yum !

IMG_4231

On Sunday, Locals had two types of fresh raw oysters available: Wild Oysters and Chadwick Creek oysters, which is located on the NC Inner Banks. We got a 1/2 dozen each and made them two ways.

First up were Raw Oysters w/lemon and a classic mignonette. As the pictures can attest, these were highly anticipated !

IMG_4180

IMG_4198

The second recipe we decided on was Oysters Rockefeller. Oven Baked w/Spinach, bacon and grated parmigiano- reggiano cheese until golden brown.

Last but definitely not least were what to do with our fresh flounder filet. How about Flounder Almondine?

Light egg batter and salt/pepper dusted flour dip and pan fried in Olive oil . We finished it with parsley flakes w/a side of asparagus tips. GREAT seafood sampler dinner from Locals Seafood. It just doesn’t get any fresher or any more local than this. Stop by one of the markets in Raleigh, Chapel Hill or West Wake this weekend and get buy your own fresh catch !

This #TransformationTuesday, Buy some fun #fashion #fitness #yoga #leggings by @vrsgymfashion !

image

In February, I joined the #RootYourselfChallenge..an Instagram yoga challenge and I was selected as one of the winners!

It was an honor to receive a pair of leggings from VRS GYM FASHION and I could not wait to celebrate Transformation Tuesday on this new month of March in my new pair of Kula Leggings!image

I opened the package and said to myself, “These leggings are everything” . I can’t wait to try them out at my Zumba class tonight. Zumba is one of those classes where fashion and fitness come together. They are a fantastic Brazilian company that specialize in active leggings for yoga, for fitness, for everyday fashion. Made out of Polyamide and Elastane they fit like a glove and move and stretch as my body does. On their website, they say these feel like “second skin”. I soon found that to be the truth.

These come in various fun styles that will inspire you to feel good about yourself while working out and staying healthy. I love leggings that provide style and comfort so no matter what I am doing, I feel fabulous while doing it!

They have so many color and pattern styles to make sure every woman can find something they like. What I really love about them that unlike other leggings the wide waistband are designed to wear high, low or even folded over.

As a practicing Yogi, I also loved to practice my various Yoga moves while wearing these. I finally found active leggings that fit my active lifestyle.

This style of yoga-inspired leggings is called Kula leggings. The high quality fabric is soft and the colors are vibrant . They come in a variety of styles and colors, so there is something for everyone.
